Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Not Dying to Wolves

Hack of Dragon Ball Z: Legacy of Goku

Description:

This hack’s purpose is to balance the game’s difficulty, fix bugs and also improve its flow. Enemies no longer take away most of your life with their attacks at the start of the game, and stat increases are re-balanced so you’re not overpowered by the end of the game.

Source code: https://github.com/fcard/dbzlegacyofwolves

Changes:

  • Enemies only do a fraction of the damage they normally would, depending on how strong they are.
  • Flight now regenerates when you’re not flying.
  • Stats changed on all levels, for a more gradual increase in strength.
  • Attacks no longer have a chance of causing no damage.
  • Fixed bug where attacks would heal, potentially overflowing the target’s health and instantly killing them (targets including Goku himself!)
  • Boosted health of Raditz, Vegeta and Ginyu.
  • Changed bankrobber’s health from 7000 to 800.
  • The last few levels are much easier to acquire.

ROM / ISO Information:

  • Database match: Dragon Ball Z - The Legacy of Goku (USA)

I understand the logic, but I think this wasn't how to do it

Is it beneficial for adjusting the difficulty curve? Yes. Is it essential to enjoy the game? … I’d argue no.

I might not be the target audience, but I think this hack doesn’t change enough to really justify playing this way over leaving the game unchanged. The biggest flaws in the first game’s mechanics are in attack spamming leaving you open to damage, and “dying to wolves” becomes fairly insignificant once Goku reaches level 5. Heck, avoiding dying to wolves can be done by leaving East District 439, coming back to respawn the crabs, and leveling against them before continuing.
