The Patching Information section claimed that the patch requires a headered rom. This was definitely a mistake, so I changed it. I added a header to the original rom and the patch produced a buggy uncensored sprite with stray pixels floating around the main character. Patching a clean headerless rom restored the uncensored sprite without any graphical errors, as shown in the screenshots. Plus, the readme itself doesn't say anything about a header, which further proves the uploader made a mistake when filling in the patching details.

SMRPG-Reworked Text

Hack of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Description:

This hack was originally intended to replace Culex’s dialogue to match what he says in Japanese for private use. However, it was soon discovered that Super Mario RPG’s text had enough small translation errors, typos and out-of-nowhere capitalization to warrant a close look through every line of dialogue and change what errors could be found. Changes include:

  • Mistranslated monster names fixed (Goby is now Cheep Cheep, Shy Away is now Beezo, etc.)
  • Psychopath quotes which were originally Japanese pop culture references have been replaced with American pop culture references.
  • Final Fantasy references lost/removed in translation have been restored. (along with a few extra added)
  • Typos and unnecessary capitalizations fixed.
  • Various phrases (most notably cringe-inducing puns) rewritten from scratch. (”It’s a CHAIN reaction?” That’s not funny, that’s just embarrassing.)
  • As of v1.1, mistranslated item names (plus a certain location’s name) have been corrected.

This hack was made possible by giangurgolo & Omega’s Lazy Shell editor. No header required for patching.
