I made an unfair review before based on some super subjective issues I had. The author reached out to me to not only thank me for my lack of recommendation but offered to even help me make the changes to make it what I wanted (I had done this before but some of the newer changes would have taken a lot more time to revert/change). But I was not being honest with myself that I wouldn't recommend the romhack after I literally followed it for 2 years on the forum. It deserves recommendations even if its to use as a base for your own personal changes.

Super Castlevania IV Remix

Hack of Super Castlevania IV

Description:

This is a remix hack that changes the enemy type in the levels, music and vertical/horizontal progression in the last two stages. There is minor code added to disable fatal damage on some spike type. You can shoot sub-weapons with R and X by default. This hack was aimed to be created in a short period of time but offer great new game play.

There are a view level layout changes to fresh things up and give a good challenge. The difficulty is aimed for normal and good player. If you know this game very well then try the double boss health patch. That one will do what it says but also adjust some enemies. Like the bone pillar to have a slightly increased shooting interval. The Sub-weapons are also balanced to be all useful. This balance patch (double boss health) can be used for the original game. Or other hacks where you like to add a extra challenge. Or defuse depending on the hack.

I added a compatible don’t move patch. Originally created by rainponcho. Modded by Alcaro.

V 1.1 Adjusting enemy spawn rate in stage 8. Some minor nerves. Thanks to eatitup_86 for testing, streaming and the great comments.
