Previously mentioned TwistC as doing hardware testing before I discovered that testers aren't supposed to be listed here. However, the truth is that they actually designed the hack and decided which buttons should go where (which I then implemented).
This is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. It attempts to recreate features of the much disliked Gameboy Advance port of Sonic 1 called Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis. The hack has the following features:
Physics which closely match those of the GBA game, noticeable during Eggman boss confrontations as it is possible to bounce of the top of him.
Spin Dash which has slow animation and dust that appears slightly before the spin starts.
Background effects, like moving clouds.
Various bug fixes.
Skippable score countdown, momentum preservation, “Press Start” text on title screen.
Sonic’s sprite art and the life counter text are replaced with the different art from the GBA port.
All springs double Sonic’s max speed until landing after being airborne. All side-facing red springs act like yellow springs. To compensate for the lower speed, slope repel calculations aren’t performed after hitting a spring. Vertical springs erase all horizontal velocity not in a direction being pressed.
New feature: the scrolling is changed to give a better sense of speed and Sonic CD-style lookahead (not in the GBA port).
The patch is in xdelta format. The ROM should be in BIN format.
