Lute and Rod not working in Final Fantasy Negative One
« on: June 05, 2015, 02:38:39 pm »
Howdy,

I'm currently working on a Final Fantasy 1 hack (called Final Fantasy Ultra). It's based on PinkPuff's 'Final Fantasy Negative One'. That hack can be found here:
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/789/
(I presume the code in my hack concerning this issue is the same).

One thing that doesn't work in her hack, and thus also not in mine, are the items Lute and Rod. They should take away the plates that are in the Temple of Fiends (since they are placed there are npcs).

Is anybody familiar with this problem? If so, do you have an idea how to fix this?

Oh crud. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'll put up the latest version soon.

Basically, to fix it on your own, the problem is with the type of tile next to it. In FFHackster, the wrong type of tile is next to the ROD tile for activating the rod. Probably the same for the LUTE. I think you just swap the tile types but it was a while ago when I fixed this on my own local copy so if that doesn't work, you may have to experiment a little, but that was the essential source of the problem.

And the waterfall entrance? That's an issue mentioned in a review of your hack.

I know but the waterfall isn't a dungeon in FF -1 and it certainly isn't needed in order to finish the game so I don't know what that person was talking about.

The version of Grond's Rebalance Bugfix hack that I started with had a similar problem. I basically had to reverse the "use Lute" and "use Rod" tiles for some reason, but you still used the right item. I thought it was really weird that I put a "use Lute" tile in front of the Earth Plate, but used the Earth Rod to open it up. Don't know if this will help you, but it was something that I noticed.

I just added my comment because of something Disch said to me about people who might be searching for an answer. Figured even if someone wasn't trying to play Negative One, they might still find my reply as helpful if they were having an issue with another version of a FF1 hack.
