This is another project I'm looking forward to.  Good job and good luck on this SML2 colorization hack. :)

In my opinion, SML2 is the best Mario GameBoy game, so I think it is awesome that it is getting some treatment!

Oh, before I forget, do you plan on adding animations to the ? blocks and coins?  I think that would be pretty cool.

Hmm... I didn't think about it, but that may be feasible. I'll look into it.

Here's a mashup of Persona 2 Innocent Sin's battle theme with Persona 2 Eternal Punishment's battle theme I slapped together tonight:

This doesn't warrant a new thread, so I'm just posting it here:

I hacked NES Tetris to include the famous Music A from the Game Boy version. You can see it in action here:

Download IPS patch:

In the future there's a small chance I'll remake music C as well, edit music B to be closer to the GB version and then release it properly here on RHDN. We'll see

Excellent job on porting over the GB version of Music A to the NES port of Tetris, it came out great.

That's great to hear that you'll be porting over the GB versions of Music B & C as well.

I hope the same thing can be done with Tetris DX for the GBC as well.

I watched that video last week, you did a excellent job on making these arcade ports look more like their arcade counterparts with your color hacking skills. Especially Mega Twins, that game looks just like its arcade counterpart thanks to your hack.

You along with fusaru & Linkuei showed everyone that the Genesis is capable of having Amiga, arcade & SNES looking games if you use the right colors which a lot of developers didn't do back in the 90's.

A tutorial to hack the game "Coryoon" (Turbografx16) (Texts in spanish) using MESSUI and a hexadecimal editor.
With this you can have more lives in the game.

My tentative FF4 Prettified hack in motion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6lEC8zBP-Q

For those who have no idea what I did in this hack, here's an explanation: the proportional font is all predrawn, which means the VWF effect is generated in advance and then stored in the rom. Some things, like item names, are dynamically copied in real time via DMA, while others are static sets of 256 tiles (menu static messages, in other words) switched around depending on the menu section.

The thing about this hack is that I wanted to check how fast this could run on the SNES. Turns out byuu was correct in one of his articles: it's fast and looks good. I also tried a few slick tricks like "expanding" RAM by using the SRAM as a scratchpad (I'm currently using 32KB because I needed a huge temp buffer for preserving some VRAM data). I was even surprised by the DMA working correctly from/to SRAM!

Hopefully more people will try this approach. It's fun to implement and it works great even with FF4, which has some really naaasty code.

Couldn't notice any lag whatsoever, very promising! Does it work as well during battles?
I understand this is an experiment at this point and far from finished, but I couldn't help but noticing a typo on the Status Screen: Strenght. Keep up the good work!

FF4 Prettify updated a bit with less glitches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R2vrqmKU1Y
While it doesn't show in the video, player names can already be made proportional, since the code generating those tiles is already coded in the assembly procedures. It's just a matter of actually showing those tiles and fix one spot I forgot to cover for tile regeneration.

Not yet, but I'm trying to learn how the battle bank works in order to add Prettify in there too. For now I can say for sure that there's enough VRAM.

Those messages are far from finalized. I'll have someone double check them for me, since all I did there was quickly translate all messages and put them together in an XML script.

Very nice! Also :+1: for not using that awful post-processing filter anymore!  >:D
