Translations: Original Fire Emblem translation!
« on: August 15, 2007, 12:27:07 pm »

Update By: DarknessSavior

I just released a preliminary patch for the original FE, check it out. The items and characters are translated and inserted, and now have space (thanks to KingMike’s double-line hack)! Most of the battle messages are translated too.

Warning: There is a small bug. You cannot use shops, don’t ask me why, as I currently don’t know what I can do to fix it. -.-

Staff - You can get the aforementioned patch here at RHDN.

I was going to ask if the original Fire Emblem wasn't already included verbatim in the second mainline Fire Emblem game, but then I remembered that that translation project was never actually completed.  Well, here's to hoping that a translated Fire Emblem will spur on completed translations of the other pre-GBA games in the series.  Good luck on that shop bug.

Or is still in "the works"... Right Gideon Zhi?

Either way, nice work DS... I don't know how inclined I am to try it out, though... Since I don't own the actual cartridge and with all the hunting the government's been doing, I've been paranoid lately about roms I don't legally own (not that I have any...), even if they're old and no one cares about'em anymore... :/ But I do wish you luck in trying to fix the shop bug...

You're shitting me. I thought you had to make your own backups or it was still illegal anyways.

I think there's something like that too. Either way, it's off-topic. Maybe I shouldn't have brought this up...

Well, here's to hoping that that eyeroll means "Try saying that in a couple of months."

It means I never give up on anything. Eight years and numerous quality releases from AGTP should show you that.

What about games like Gran Historia? There were a number of projects like that one which disappeared from your list over the years.

I think five, total, and at that no remarkable progress had ever been made on those. Further, some of them are getting resurrected. Fire Emblem, on the other hand, is quite a way's along.

Besides, I announced that I'd be discontinuing those projects. No such announcement has been made in FE's case (and no such announcement will ever be made, barring extremely unusual circumstances.)

Well, they're different-ish games either way. No biggie.

Good point on the announcements. Blame it on the others. Too many people don't even bother to announce dropped projects. You and I can be trusted that our projects are always still alive unless we announce otherwise because we will announce such a matter if it occured. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for 80% of everybody else.

So.. when people don't see an update on something for awhile, they assume (wrongfully in some cases) it's dead quickly.

Tell you what might be a nice addition for your web site (or anybody's really) now that we're on this topic. Maybe attach a date/time stamp to your project pages so it shows when the last update occurred for that project page. You have so many, I know when I visit here and there, I don't even know if any progress has been made since I last looked at particular project without checking the news archives. Perhaps your other visitors experience the same. It would be especially useful on your page with a large number of projects.

Good suggestion! I'll see about getting that implemented when I get some time.

Awesome job man, but unfortunately, the game is unplayable with the shops disabled. You need to replenish your weapons in FE. Anyway, I hope this gets fixed soon.

*sighs* I knew the expanding would be a bad idea. This is the second time I've had to explain this (though I clearly did it in the readme, if anyone bothered to read those...).

Download nflate, and expand the PRG memory (NOT THE CHR!). Then apply the patch. It should come out nice and clean.

i did that and that picture is what i got for some reason. i tried multiple times.

this is what i did
step 1 : i chose the clean rom.
step 2 : change it to a new name ( might have been what i did wrong)
step 3: pressed 1 for yes
step 4: pushed 0 for no.

then it does all the saving stuff

and thats what came out in the picture
