Update By: gzip

After a previous attempt that wasn't well received, user gzip has taken another stab at uncensoring Maniac Mansion for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Several limitations have been overcome to produce a version with more censored content and without all the unnecessary cruft.

You played it as a kid, now play it as an adult.

My Maniac Mansion rom is:

ROM SHA-1: 8A8BBECC77FDF59826257754F357D38A7F825971
ROM CRC32: D9F5BD1

It's the same as the patch describes but when I try to patch the rom it says that the checksum is invalid. I'm using bps v03 to apply the patch.

Have you checked if the File hashes also match?
If you have a ROM with matching ROM hashes, but with different File hashes than what the patch expects, the patch won't work.

I had this problem when trying to apply a SMB1 hack that was expecting a ROM with a NES 2.0 header instead of a ROM with an iNES header (the ROM hashes of both ROMs were the same, but their File hashes were different).
My latest Portuguese translation: Titanic (NES)

Ah, that was the issue. The ROM SHA-1/CRC32 did match but the File SHA-1/CRC32 didn't, I feel silly.

Thanks for the help mate.

Someone else PM'd me with the same problem. I removed the rom/headerless hashes from ROM Info to avoid further confusion.

I never played it as a kid, but watched it being played. Tested it out for giggles and I have to say bravo to GZip! These changes you and HonkeyKong have applied really take the game to the next level! This kind of game still isn't my jam, but the hard work is easy to appreciate. Cheers!
