Update By: sorrow

Following the success of JonataGuitar's Aria of Sorrow recolor, comes the Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance Recolor by both JonataGuiter and sorrow!

A "basic" hack for Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance that aims to overhaul the visuals of the game, creating a much more enjoyable for a fresh playthrough, as well as being easier on the eyes.

*ALL of the games palettes (Backgrounds, Animations, Characters, and Enemies) have been recolored by JonataGuitar.

*All of the animation sequence palettes are not easily found in DSVEdit and were found by sorrow and given to JonataGuitar to complete the broken areas.

*Various area tilesets were fixed by sorrow to accommodate the new colors properly.

*Final Boss Battles were tweaked by sorrow to take place in Dracula's Throne Room (from Boss Rush Mode) before transitioning to the Psychedelic area for the "Brain Fight."

QUICK NOTE

These patches are meant to recolor the palettes ONLY.  There is NO guarantee they will work with other patches.

Future Plans

*Different versions of the recolor.

*Compatibility for HoD Revenge of the Findesiecle Deluxe+ hack.

And a couple of months before Halloween, too!  I'm not sure when I'll get around to replaying HoD but when I do I'll make sure to use this, it looks good.

I didnt play it but i can see this is the way the graphics of the game should have been. Congratulations on your work.

Hey there, it's explained in the news post and the project page that there's no guarantee it will work with other patches.

Glad you like the recolor!

Man, this looks REALLY good. I usually play this game with shaders to make the scenes darker, but I think this will be a better alternative. Thanks for the good work!

The backgrounds look insane. For the sprites I feel you could go much brighter (obviously not as much as the original) so that they don't blend with the background as much. Sprites have always had vivid colors in Castlevania games.

This is just my personal opinion, of course. Great job overall on a much needed change!

Uberdubie

I much disagree with the above post; the sprites in this hack look PERFECT color-wise as-is.

Truly top-notch work right here -- not only higher-quality and easier on the eyes, but the recolor creates a much more 'real', darker atmosphere/aesthetic which truly brings the graphics to entirely new level.

Thank you both for all your incredible work on this!  I saw in a recent review for this there may be further plans to not only improve fix Juste's animations, but also to improve this game's music as well?  No idea if that'll be a separate hack, but it all sounds amazing.  Looking forward to whatever you kindly decide to grace us with!

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I actually really like HoD's music.  It sounds... chiptune-esque, like a homage to the NES and Gameboy tunes.  I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but I think it's a clever way to work within the GBA's sound capabilities.

Any updates on Revenge of the Findesiecle compatibility?  I'm really looking forward to that.

Yeah, I reported it some time ago in the discord channel, but no one seems to give importance to it. (I'm referring to players actually, I know that Jonata and Sorrow will fix it when they release their long awaited overhaul).
