Update By: ThegreatBen

A group effort from our Breath of Fire hacking discord. It aims to bring the outdated feel of Breath of Fire 1 up to the standards of the future games. Many changes have been made to names, balance, gameplay, and even a few quality of life improvements.

Quite a bit has been ported from the Breath of Fire Improved hack on gba, but since far more is known about the snes rom all of the limitations of that hack could be addressed properly in this one. And of course the improvements from War of the Goddess that were donated already make the snes game superior to the gba version now.

I currently just made it to Auria atm, but I do like the changes. Question though, is it possible to edit the item descriptions to better reflect each item, like Molotov casting Flare for example or would that break something"

In case anyone is curious:

Ben has had my 100% full blessing to use WotG as a base for DE. I even helped him make it cohesive with 1.04 as it is now, aside from implementing the Warp Menu Fix by Landmine. I wanted to clear this because a few people now think he did it without my permission, and in full transparency, while I don't remember us ever sitting down and having an explicit exchange of "Hey can I use this?" "Yes you can", this project still has my thumbs-up.

Congrats on the release, Ben!

Welp, ok. Here is hoping that sometime down the road, you are able to figure that part out as that would make things a lot easier than "Can be used in battle" description.

There's something i've been wondering for a while now with all of these new BOF SNES hacks coming out.Compared to the GBA port, the SNES original has a lot of bloat and submenus during battle, even something as basic as attacking. In fact, the battle menu itself doesn't even open automatically when it's your turn, you have to press the A button to even open the menu. GBA got rid of these extra steps. The menu opens automatically and every basic action is contained in one singular menu.

Would it be possible implement something similar to the GBA port's menu system? Or at least work within the existing SNES menu system to streamline it and get rid of these extra steps and bring it closer to how the GBA menu functions?

ThegreatBen

The gba menus were cleaner, but that would require knowledge and skill beyond what we have to be able to implement it.

Ok Impala!

Congrats on this awesome new release. So cool to see BOF getting more love!  :)

I see you made changes to the difficulty of the game. Did you test if your hack is still compatible with my Encounter Rate reducement patch? Then I can add a link to your hack on the encounter rate fix page. https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/7294/

There's no reason it shouldn't be. I never moved any data, and never touched anything encounter related.

Awesome! I'll add a link to the Definitive Edition on the Encounter Rate Fix page. How about the double EXP/Zenny patch included with my hack and the (different) double EXP/Zenny patch from War of the Goddess?

ThegreatBen

It has its own custom exp table. Neither are necessary or recommended.

Found a typo. The item Protein is misspelled as "Protien".

Edit: The item "Icicle" is also misspelled as "Iceicle"

It is pretty necessary if players use the Encounter Rate Reducement patch to halve the encounter rate. Otherwise they will get under leveled. I'll do some testing to see if the double exp patch from War of the Goddess works with definitive edition.
