Hello!

I was looking for info on what the different patch type initialisms stand for (not what they are used for, but just the actual names).

I gathered:
IPS - International Patching System (supposedly)
PPF - PlayStation Patch Format
xDelta - Dates back to Unix tool of the same name
BPS - Beat Protocol... System?

These I can't find anything on:
UPS
APS
RUP
VCDiff

Any ideas?

KingMike

BPS apparently was Beat Patching System.

UPS I think was Universal Patching System.

Maybe they don't necessarily have to mean anything..?

A bit of Googling suggests that VCDiff might be named after K. Vo, one of its authors.

BPS is Byuu/Near's final spec for an IPS format replacement.

UPS is an earlier attempt at the same.

Ask here for more details, as well as lore on the other patch formats.
