When I try the eboot on PCSXR on the Mac, it does not load either. The bin/cue loads fine though. Thanks for all the work on this!

Specknacken

This is wonderful. BoF IV is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time but it always irked me that certain scenes got cut in the international versions especially the last one with the Emperor. Thank you very much.
On another note it should be easier now to update the German (and possibly other) translation done by Twisted Phoenix Game Translation in conjunction with this right? In comparison to just translating the japanese original i mean?

You're welcome! Now I wonder if it's because of the tool used by the patcher to generate the uncensored .bin.

Don't know if this info helps, but I tried multiple versions of the hack (just the base hack, with the two optional hacks, etc) and they all produced the same result on my vita.

What about track 2.bin? I know it's not needed for the patch but after patching it I'd like to be able to create a single bin/cue to convert using psx2psp. I tried using Alcohol 120% to create a merged bin but I always get a no seek complete error and can't save the file. This doesn't happen with an unpatched iso. I even tried creating a single bin one from the base game and then patching it but the patcher doesn't use the data from track 2 and shaves off the file size back to 615 mbs (which is how big track 1 bin is) Should I even be concerned? What even is track 2? Without it is there music tracks that won't play? So many questions lol

You might be on to something here, I'll test if the second track does make a difference.
From what I recall, it's just empty, but maybe that's also used to pad out the data in the disc.

Thanks ^_^ I'd hate to be playing the game and run into a scene or area where the music doesn't play. Hopefully it's just blank data to fill in the disc. The jp version also has a track 2 bin

Just tested on my own PS3, and track 2 is definitely not the issue. I'm going to see if switching the image builder does anything different.

Here is hoping that the third scene can be translated somehow. Even better if it can be added in to the zip file so that others don't have to go searching for it themselves.
It's Nerf or NOTHING!!!

The third scene (the bathing one) can be uncensored with the tool. It needs an image of the Japanese release to do so, because there's a huge chunk of data (mostly portraits, but also a significant chunk of assembly code) that have to be copied over. I can't distribute neither the portraits nor the Japanese release, lest I run afoul copyright issues.

Quote from: MD_Prometh on September 30, 2022, 06:39:19 PMThis hack is very welcome.

Is it possible to subtitle the animated intro sequence? Despite having Japanese audio, it's not subtitled in either the US or PAL releases.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OX9KLZ6pJE a subbed OP is on YT
It is possible, though I'll have to figure out how to configure the patcher for that.

Quote from: Oppai_Daisuki8 on September 30, 2022, 01:27:41 PMsir i tried patching it though i got confused..after the program says Successfully Uncensored and created the new bin there was an error message prompt that cant find a file...is this ok?..and then tested the new bin on duckstation and epsxe it loads the game...
Can you post the exact error message? I can't really tell what might be missing just based on that.

Quote from: bajol on October 01, 2022, 03:44:19 AMWas Scias' speech restored as well?

Also why is the 3rd scene optional and why does it need the japanese version?
Scias' speech isn't restored.

The bathing scene has a good number of portraits not found in the English version, and it has to be copied from the Japanese version.

Update: It's not just the Vita, it has the same issue running on a PSP
I've released a new version of the patcher. Try using "patcheralt.exe" instead of "patcher.exe". Hopefully it works now.

Well that did the trick and it works on the Vita. Obviously it'll take a while to get to any of the uncensored scenes, but I'll be sure to update when I reach them. You rock so much!

I would also love to see a patch for the PC version.

Quote from: Dragoonglue on October 01, 2022, 08:15:06 AMThis looks really nice, thank you! Do you have any plans to also uncensor the PC version?

This is great to know. That means it'll probably work on psp. Can't wait to give it a try!
Check out and discuss my projects

Thanks! Glad to hear that it works.

Any idea why I didn't get the Peeping Tom scene on the first day the party got stranded?

PSA: To anyone who is playing with the third scene (the bathing scene) enabled: Please repatch the game with the third scene disabled as soon as you're past the third scene (you should be able to make a save at this point). There are bugs further ahead that will cause the game to lock up. I am getting this fixed.

Ignore and don't do this if you are playing the game from start to finish with the uncensored version. If you are playing with a save file created by the original game, there may be incompatibility issues if you have reached Chapter 3.

v1.1 has been posted. Please update your files if you:
  • Chose to uncensor the third scene
  • Used patcheralt.exe to create the image file
Changes made:
  • fix incorrect enemies being loaded
  • fix issue with censored scenes not working on images created by patcheralt.exe
