[Bugs] Pokemon Red Full Color White Screen Under Certain Emulators

Hello.  I seem to have found an obscure problem with FroggestSpirit and Co's "Full Color Hack" for Pokémon Red Version.
(This would have been a private message, but the hack author does not accept messages on this forum.)

First and foremost, I wanna say that I really like this hack.  It makes the game look so lovely and works really well in VisualBoy Advance and BGB!  It probably works in other emulators / cores, too.  However, in trying to run either Gen 1 or Gen 2 version under MasterBoy or RIN on my Sony PSP, there's a problem...  When getting a Pokémon from Professor Oak, the screen goes all-white.

This "white screen of invisibility" also happens when checking the Trainer Information and, more importantly, when going into combat.  I can still navigate menus and whatnot and the game goes back to normal after, but this does tend to make the game significantly less fun to play, if not impossible.  I wish I knew why this was happening specifically on the PSP emulators, too.  My copy if VisualBoy Advance is far more out of date than MasterBoy, so...

If anyone has any theories or some way to maybe fix this when running under emulators with "older cores" (I guess?), please don't hesitate to mention them!  Thanks in advance!

Using VBA (especially the original version) is not a good comparison.

Also, by default, bgb is configured for compatibility with old homebrew incompatible with real hardware. As one test, I'd go into the options and turn on the accuracy options (choosing the options labeled "real hardware") and see if the ROM hack still works.

Oh, I know VisualBoy Advance isn't the most accurate thing out there.  I also the version I use hasn't been updated in over a decade.  But, it's "accurate enough" in most cases.  Plus, the user interface is keen~

Um...?  That's on by default in v1.5.9.  It's a toggle in exceptions labeled "Emulate as in reality".  Using this, it doesn't toss up any errors at all.  But again, it also runs perfectly fine in both that one and VisualBoy Advance.  I dunno...

Regarding PSP emulators, maybe ask on gbatemp as well.

Also just so you know VBA has security holes etc so please switch to mgba.

GBATemp?  Aw, man.  I don't wanna go there.  That's where all the smelly people go.  (;
But seriously, I'll see if I can remember my login and give them a jangle, yeah.  I mean, I was hoping this was a ROM hack-specific issue, but it seems more likely that the emulators I'm using on my PSP are just not getting this one thing.  I should try other colorization hacks and see if they do the same thing.  I just know native Game Boy Color games like Pokemon: Crystal Version work fine.

As for the emulators I use...
Spoiler
I probably should have mentioned: I'm running a version of VisualBoy Advance from 2004.  Specifically, "VBA ReRecording" v24 svn480-LRC4.  The newer versions of VisualBoy Advance don't seem to work correctly, efficiently, or... at all... for me.  And?  They're fat.  Like, twenty times as big as the older versions.  The ZIP files for mGBA are only 12 MB and bloody 4DO – a very capable Panasonic 3DO emulator – is only 2 MB, so what the heck is up with VisualBoy Advance-M and it's 20 MB ZIP file?

Speaking of mGBA, though... I really do like that emulator.  However, it's missing a few "niceties" from VisualBoy Advance that I really want.  I've already talked with the super-nice author about them and they said they're "low priority" when compared to making the emulator more stable and compatible, and stuff.  Understandable, but it keeps me from committing.  Heh.

maybe post a picture or screenshot of the "white screen of invisibility" problem here would be great as proof

perhaps you should bring up the size issue with VisualBoy Advance-M (or VBA-M) on github if it really bothers you
