Quote from: Nintenja on September 23, 2022, 04:46:21 AMApparently this project will never be postable to RHDN for download as getting this many permissions to use each individual hack is shaping up to be impossible. Especially since the mods told me I'd need each author whose work is featured here not just to give me permission but to update his or her read me or hack download page to make their work open source basically.

I'm a bit confused by this. We have had all these Redux hacks released over the last few years, they often consist of many different existing hacks. I'm a bit puzzled how FFV freemaster is different from these? Is it that nothing new is added to this hack and it's only a compilation of existing work? Just a genuine question.

Thanks for your question. It's a compilation of a ton of existing work..obviously as everything and everyone's amazing work is credited for their contribution in the read me and info page. No hiding that fact.. i don't think i could ever have created this many different hacks or even would have the desire or time or creativity to do it. I saw an amazing community effort With a ton of individual separate patches and started putting things together best i could for a personal ultimate version and there were some issues but ffv was improved in my mind and beatable so I decided to release it. That version was considered a compilation by a mod bc I only credited myself for testing/compiling and hadn't gotten permission to use each hack from each author(the real reason it was pulled down).it was more than a compilation but obviously mostly was a compilation,so honestly I kinda  just decided to dive right in and I did additional work with some of the hacks where I could and also the MSU1 compatibility merging things together and tweaking, than of course a ton of hours playtesting and some small bug fixes/anti patches to remove or add some bug fixes/recompiling almost from scratch and than playtesting. Luckily seems this game has more Mostly compatible(w a little help) hacks than darn near any other game I've tried to do this for. Most hacks are exactly what I wanted them to be which is awesome too in this case. It's A real passion project kinda. Maybe a little obsession involved..lol. I even roadmapped for version 4 and 5. Which will be the final versions...sometime..they won't be incredibly different as so much has already been added.but I will be going back through and attempting to fix a cosmetic bug(this will take time) that I just can't live with being a part of the Final builds permanently and adding in by default a fully playtested working new game plus mode (in version 5). Ive been slowly getting each modm authors blessing for the project including t92 and conn..inu's patches were huge in version 3.0 and probably the Final 2 versions will have me implementing more of his work and making sure it doesn't break everything else. I'm gonna have to update my own credit from just compiling/testing on v1.0 to hacking/bugfixing/compiling/testing at this point in the project.thanks for your question.

A bit of a side-step, but since you are so passionate about FFV. The Boss Fight book about FFV is a fantastic read about the development of the game and (especially) the player community around it.

Thought about it, but it is way more fun to create a Rom hack!  :)

I agree..it is fun..I think it's time for a ton of definitive editions of these classics. Too many individual patches and hackers. Every classic game needs one killer version.

Any plans on adding new difficulty settings to your hack? Could be as simple as increasing monster stats/damage by 25% or you could change abilities, encounter compositions etc.

Version 5.0 will have a definite more difficult version available..and an easy mode where you can learn all the jobs and level super super fast like 8x experience or something..also want to add in the new auto learning patch but hadn't been able to figure out what's wrong with it bc I work alot.

Thanks for the info. I forgot to ask, do you plan on adding the GBA bonus content?

Noside

I didn't know about this project, hence I didn't have the chance to vote but I'm glad most of people are intersted, myself included!  :woot!: cheers!

Just had a thought: will you balance overpowered abilities and ability combinations like mix and knight swords+dual wield+spellblade+rapid fire? Or just increase the difficulty to compensate for those abilities/combinations?
