Is there a program I can use to play PCM files?

I have a game set up with an msu patch and a couple of soundtracks for it, but unfortunately an equal amount of both soundtracks suck and I'd like to have the option to swap in the versions I prefer. I'd need to be able to hear them first, of course, so...

FAST6191

If it is just PCM files then Audacity should be able to do raw imports of things, most around here normally use it to help in figuring out unknown file formats that happen to use PCM as the encoding (a lot of hardware level things available for it so common enough) but would be where I look for this if the usual suspects for audio playback are not doing it for you.

File-import-raw data, hope you know the format settings or are willing to guess. Can also try more conventional file open stuff if you want.

Easy.

Get foobar2000 if you haven't already. https://www.foobar2000.org/

Here's an MSU1 audio plugin to play back MSU1 pcm files: https://www.zeldix.net/t1334-msu-1-pcm-plugin-for-foobar2000

And here's vgmstream which allows foobar to play almost every single videogame streaming audio format under the sun: https://github.com/vgmstream/vgmstream/releases

Now one other tool you can use, which I do use lots for MSU1 patches, is https://github.com/libertyernie/LoopingAudioConverter/releases which allows you to easily convert from any other audio type (including wav, MP3, flac) to MSU1 PCM format,  including support for loop points and volume adjustment.

Enjoy

You'd think there'd be a less complicated way to go about it. I mean, an audio format's an audio format, right?

So..? A lot of audio formats can only be played in foobar200 with an appropriate plugin. How much less complicated do you want it to be?
This signature is an illusion and is a trap devisut by Satan. Go ahead dauntlessly! Make rapid progres!
