Hello everyone,

first time poster, long time reader. Out of curiosity, I've been trying to hack a rom of Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special (1994, Super
Famicom). So far, I've been able to successfully change the values of the number of tournaments recorded from 11 to 101 (the max number
for which the game stops counting) using the old ZSNES emulator's [Cheat - Search - Enter Value] feature.

Though, the one area of Special that I can't seem to hack is the Fight Records page:

"Fight Records" is essentially an in-game profile that keeps track of a players wins and losses. In the above screen, my specific
file has 1056 wins and 2 losses displayed. Over the years, I've tried to hack these numbers to see just how many wins/losses the
game can record.

Once again, I attempted to hack the values of my win record. Ran a search for my current number 1056, the search brought
up 21 results. Then I updated the values of those results from 1056 to 9999 (seeing as the game presented four digits,
I figured I could at least update the number of wins to something under 10,000).

And then the game crashed.

I then started turning off some codes until the game stopped crashing on startup. The Fight Records value stayed the same.

Second attempt: Started over and decided to try a smaller value (3000 wins). Still nothing.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You were doing this "over the years", and you tried exactly two different numbers (9999 and 3000)..?

As 2048 is a power of two, that would be a logical place to find the limit.  But why not just start with 1057 and see if that works?

I would also expect that another, better emulator would surely have an equivalent cheat feature at this point, though offhand I wouldn't know what emulator that would be.

When I meant "over the years" I meant trying to hack Super Fire Pro-Wrestling Special on and off. Not consistently.

Anyways, I since switched over to the Snes9X:

The above screen reads "10781 wins. 10002 losses. Rank S100.

Without hacking, I have just clocked in 10,000+ wins and losses in the "Fight Records" portion of the game. As the screen is
getting pretty crowded now, I don't think the win or loss count exceeds 100k.

With curiosity still getting the better of me, I fired up Snes9x's built in cheat feature.

Cheat
> Search for new cheats (active).
> Made sure the "2 Bytes" box was checked.
> Equal to the entered value of my current win count (10781 wins).
> Good news: the cheat search found one result.

Selecting the result, I proceeded to change the value of my win count.
It seems any value over 65000 wouldn't be allowed under 2 bytes. So, I entered 60,000 as the new value.

I also checked for the previous value 10780 (one win less than my current record) in the active and new
cheats sections. No results.

Made sure the "apply cheats" option was checked off. Saved my game position and then reloaded the game.

Still no luck.

There could be any number of things going on behind the scenes. Maybe the game uses some of those bits for some other purpose.

Like I said: why not just start by increasing it by exactly one?
