Hello everyone!

I started working on a hack that aims to improve FF V's experience without affecting gameplay too much.
I will be using the Final Fantasy V - Legend of the Crystals translation as a base as it is the most up to date fan translation and only minor changes are needed to have a definitive translation.

The changes already made are:

  • Better equipment for some jobs that previously can only equip one or two weapons (like the white mage).
  • A GBA-like B button dash.
  • Add some improvement patches from RHDN.

The changes left to made are:

  • Restore the monster counter on battle.
  • Create a patch that also adds bugfixes.
I'll post the v.1.0 patch when I'm done with the changes to the script.
Meanwhile, your suggestions would help me a lot.

This seems an interesting idea for a hack, and more love for FFV is welcome.

https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3687/ I wonder if it's possible to insert the script from this hack into your patch with some adjustment to the dialog formatting? The text is pretty small and the font is rather thin, so sometimes you have to squint in order to read it. GBA script with a bigger text and a more legible font + gameplay improvements would make for a nice way to play FFV, both for longtime fans and newcomers.

Fix or remove the joke abilities (such as most "Equip ___" abilities).
In memory of my beloved cats, Anastasia (9/30/06-9/18/17, illness) and Josephine (1/19/06-9/23/17, cancer).
My mods: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Gemfire, 7th Saga, and more

I guess it should be possible to slightly edit the GBA script to fit the rom without having to use a small font.

Is there any way to expand the text box space limits? I've played that GBA script hack a while ago, and felt that, with some adjustments to the font and space limits, the text could probably still fit fine. FFVI got a GBA Script patch and that looks pretty good. Then again, I'm no real expert in romhacking myself.

I'm going to lower the amount of ABP needed to learn some of them, especially the "equip rods" as it's completely useless; worst of all, it costs 250 ABP to learn.

You can always change the Equip abilities so that they boost Strength/Agility to X. The FFV Viewer would probably help you a lot(not sure if it's on Romhacking).

Also you could adjust the HP/MP+ abilities to massively boost one of the stats to make them a little more appealing

That is an excellent idea. Maybe adding a Magic power boost to the "Equip rods" would make it less useless.

Updates:

Already managed to:

  • Change the name of three jobs.
  • Change some text related to the new name of the jobs.
  • Add a description to every job.

Trying to:

  • Change the name and description of some abilities.
  • Change the name of some commands.

Due to "Equip Rods" being at the end of the Time Mage tree(move it if you want), maybe give a 50% increase over one of the higher Magic power totals?
