ROM Hacks: Here is Robocop: Texas Edition, or in other words, the best Robocop videogame you can play on a NES

3 months have passed since the release of this hack. And strangely enough, it has gone relatively unnoticed. And it is important to emphasize "strangely" because it is a masterpiece.

The concept is simple: Bring the experience of playing Robocop on Nintendo NES as close as possible to its Arcade counterpart. The result? A notable graphical improvement in sprites, backgrounds and everything related to the intro and cutscenes. Practically nothing is preserved from the original title, and that's a good thing.

A notable improvement has also been made in the playable area by removing the battery bar (which decreases as time passes). This doesn't really change the difficulty of the game, but it makes it less frustrating by not feeling the constant time pressure.

Just a little question: Why the "Texas Edition" name, rather than, let's say "Arcade Edition", since the hack turns the game into similar to the arcade version?

It's fun. I suspect "Texas Edition" is throwing most would-be players off, though. A casual just scrolling along  a summary of released hacks could easily and understandably assume it's a joke hack.

I don't really consider myself the target for this (having not played the NES or arcade game that I recall), but yeah, why is it called "Texas"? Robocop is set in Detroit, and that's kinda core to understanding Robocop.

I agree that "Texas Edition" instead of something like "Arcade Edition" can be confusing. Personally, I find it funny that that minor detail draws so much attention. Maybe we should ask the author about it. I didn't give it much thought and assumed that A) Texas is probably his home and B) He's especially proud of it XD

Pending to be confirmed by the creator, it's a good explanation. Even if so, it's still surprising the emphasis he put on that detail, because we can see it in the first screen of the game, the title screen, in a sequence in which we go up by elevator to the top floor of the OCP offices and in the ending credits XD.

The description in the download page should be updated. It says nothing about the battery bar modifications. It's actually a pretty lazy write up.

Some people want more than a graphics change and not mentioning the full extent of the changes is limiting.
