I'd like to update DeJap's Star Ocean Translation

Magno did an excellent hack of Star Ocean (https://www.romhacking.net/translations/3736/) for his spanish translation.  He fixed several engine bugs that are still present in DeJaps version.

I was wondering if it'd be possible to rip the script from DeJaps translation and apply it to Magno's hack.

I'd also like to replace couple of things that DeJap left unfinished.  Namely, the Yes/No icons and the subtitles in the intro.

I've never done anything like this, and honestly don't even know where to start.

This would be a poor place to start, as Star Ocean is technically one of the most complex games ever released for the SNES.

Have you checked to see if any of the official tools have been made available?

I sent Magno a PM and an email a month or two ago, but haven't gotten any response.  I know he mentioned his toolkit, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it.

Kongratz for wanting to take such a difficult job. Honestly, if you made a simple hack replacing the ugly font used in the game i'd be happy.  :thumbsup:

I'd even donate $$$ to you if i wasnt such a poor guy as you can see from my GREAT pc in my signature.

Pending more game specific advice I would almost prefer to go the other way and backport any extra fixes from the Spanish one if it is all based on the same affair. Far less likely to run into any tweaks done to handle the Spanish text engine, and where they are you can then lose them more easily than adapting for Spanish text engine.

Based on his relatively sparse documentation, it seems like he did ALOT behind the scenes.  (https://magno.romhackhispano.org/)

His spanish translation was used as the base for the german translation;  it seems like hacking in the english translation would be easier.  But really, I don't know.

I know magno is actually out of the scene and these has personal reasons.
Actually i already covert the english script to the toolset.

Will send you some files to Check and change.

What exactly are you "updating"? Currious, What do you think needs "re-translation" of DeJap's one. What are your goals?

Lol, no worries.

There's some more specific documentation here, but it's in spanish, and kinda spread out (https://magno.romhackhispano.org/).  Google translate does a good job.

Awesome.  Downloaded.  I've never used tilemolester before, so I'll have to spend some time working that out.

edit: @RedScorpion do you happen to know what font is being used here?  if not, I'll just choose something that looks nice.

edit 2: Here are the german bits and their english counterparts.  I translated them all in google translate before i remembered that these bits are actually (poorly) voiced in english.  updated the translations to match the dubs.  these images were all pulled from the .bin files RedScorpion sent me.  It seems I'm still missing a few.

Excellent.  Thanks a ton for all your help!  I couldn't do this without you.

After the intro subs have been translated, I think the next thing is the yes/no graphic:



Also, did you translate this "PLOF" graphic for the german translation? (image from spanish translation)

hi guys,

i could insert the complete script of Dejaps translation in a new revision. I used the toolset from magno which was also used for the german and spanish translation.

If anyone want test the new rom, send me a PM.
