Create a Series Collection
« on: January 19, 2022, 09:15:38 pm »
Just for fun, I want to hear ideas for series collections. The rules are:

1. All main games must be from the same series, or at least the same development studio. For example, it's okay to put Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma together, but not Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

2. You are limited to a maximum of 6 9 games. So no complete libraries like "Megaman Classic, Megaman X, and Megaman Zero/ZX all in one package!" Different versions of the same game count as 1 game. So Contra and Probotector count as 1 game, not 2.

3. You must include an unlockable game that has some sort of connection to the collection, but is different in some way. Examples of this in existing collections include the arcade fighter "Megaman: The Power Battles" in Megaman Anniversary Collection, or "Kid Dracula" in the Castlevania Collection.

For example purposes, here is a "Bravely Default 1 Collection". Sorry for stealing this if it was someone's idea.
1. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
2. Bravely Default: Demo (contains a unique storyline from the main game)
3. Bravely Second: End Layer
4. Bravely Second: Ballad of the Three Cavaliers (An extensive demo/prologue to Bravely Second with a unique story)
UNLOCKABLE: Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light (This game was made by the same team, and is a direct predecessor to Bravely Default)

I want to see what you guys come up with!

Kinda limiting, really. I was going to say an updated Metal Slug AIO since we haven't had one since PS2/Wii but lmao.

Sure. I increased the limit from 6 games to 9, to see if it sparks creativity.

A collection that I would love to see is a Konami TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) Arcade collection.
1. TMNT (NES) (A terrible game with vastly different gameplay, but people would complain if it wasn't here)
2. TMNT II: The Arcade Game (Arcade + NES port)
3. TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
4. TMNT IV: Turtles in Time (Aracde + SNES port)
5. TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist (Genesis)

EXTRA: TMNT Tournament Fighters (SNES + Genesis + NES) A Street Fighter style fighting game

Another Code/Hotel Dusk collection - on an imaginary system that has a foldable dual screen, microphone, and motion controls   :o

1. Another Code: Two Memories (aka Trace Memory) - DS
2. Another Code: R - Wii
3. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 - DS
4. Last Window: The Secret of Cape West - DS

Unlockable: Again (DS) - another adventure game by Cing. A bit like Hotel Dusk but without the rotoscope tracing and um, not as good.

JB Harold: Murder Club would be a more left field choice for an unlockable - one of Rika Suzuki's more well known game when she was with Riverhill Soft before Cing.

Something I'd like to see would be a collection of all id's classic FPSs - maybe call it id Software Classic Complete (like Doom Classic Complete on Steam).

- Wolfenstein 3D (A cool added feature would be co-op multiplayer, like in this mod)
- Doom
- Doom 2
- Doom 64
- Quake
- Quake 2 (They could add the N64 levels as a bonus campaign, that'd be cool)
- Quake 3 Arena

Mario Bros Saga:
1. Mario Bros. (NES)
2. Mario Bros. (Game & Watch)
3. Mario's Cement Factory (Game & Watch)
4. Return of Mario Bros. (Famicom Disk System)
5. Punch Ball Mario Bros. (Sharp X1)
6. Mario Bros. Special (Sharp X1)
7. Mario The Juggler (Game & Watch)
8. Mario Clash (Virtual Boy)
9. Mario Bros. Classic Hack (Game Boy Advance Hack)

I have modified the collection following the recommendations given. However I dind't feel like Pinball and Wrecking Crew were very appropiate for this specific compilation based on Mario Bros.

That reminds me that I need to finish off the actually-existing collection of Chex Quest 1-3. I made it through the first 2, but never finished the 3rd.

It feels weird to have the Super Mario games in there, especially if it's missing VS. Super Mario Bros and Doki Doki Panic. I like the idea of the pre-Super Mario arcade games though. What if you added in Wrecking Crew and Pinball in their various versions?

So the question is "name a series of games and then another game that is kinda sorta related"..?  I don't get it.

I guess you could go with Commander Keen 1-6 plus Keen Dreams and Bio Menace, which uses the same engine. But why not just package the entire 3D Realms anthology in that case?

(In reality Keen Dreams and Keen 6 are tied up in licensing problems, but this is fantasy, I guess.)
This signature is an illusion and is a trap devised by Satan. Go ahead dauntlessly! Make rapid progres!

It's more "Name a collection that you'd like to see". It's not so much a question as it is a discussion about retro game enthusiasts and the collections we would want. And I would totally love a Commander Keen collection. I have fond memories of those games, but it'd be interesting to get sound this time. :)

Okay, here are a few that I would look for.
=======================
Golden Sun Collection:
1. Golden Sun: The Broken Seal - The 1st GBA game
2. Golden Sun: The Lost Age - The 2nd GBA game, with a continuous story to the 1st
3. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - The NDS sequel that never got enough love
EXTRA: Beyond the Beyond - Camelot Software's only other RPG, originally released for the PSX.

=======================
Mega Man Battle Network Collection 1
1. Mega Man Battle Network 1 (GBA and NDS "Operation Shooting Star" Versions)
2. Mega Man Battle Network 2 (GBA)
3. Mega Man Battle Network 3 (GBA - BLUE and WHITE Versions)
---
4. Mega Man Network Transmission (GCN Platformer)
5. Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge (GBA Spinoff)
UNLOCKABLE
6. Rockman EXE Phantom of Network (i-mode Mobile Phone)
7. Rockman EXE Battle Chip Stadium Arcade Game (or at least a video of it for preservation's sake)

=======================
Mega Man Battle Network Collection 2
1. Mega Man Battle Network 4 (GBA - RED SUN and BLUE MOON Versions)
2. Mega Man Battle Network 5 (GBA - Team Protoman and Team Colonel Versions, plus NDS Double Team version)
3. Mega Man Battle Network 6 (GBA - Cybeast Gregar and Cybeast Falzar Versions)
---
4. Rockman EXE 4.5 Real Operation (GBA)
5. Rockman EXE WS (WonderSwan platformer)
UNLOCKABLE
6. Rockman EXE Legend of Network (i-mode Mobile Phone)
7. Rockman EXE The Medal Operation Arcade Game (or at least a video of it for preservation's sake)

=======================
Mega Man Star Force Collection
1. Mega Man Star Force 1 (Dragon, Pegasus, and Leo versions) (seriously, why 3 Capcom?!)
2. Mega Man Star Force 2 (Zerker x Saurian and Zerker x Ninja versions)
3. Mega Man Star Force 3 (Black Ace and Red Joker versions)
UNLOCKABLE
4. Mega Man Battle Network: Operation Shooting Star (may as well include it in this collection too)

The olympics had me dusting off my old PS2 to play SSX Tricky, so I'll add an SSX collection

1. SSX
2. SSX Tricky
3. SSX 3
4. SSX On Tour
5. SSX 2012
UNLOCKABLE: SSX Blur (Wii Motion Controls made this game an odd duck in the series)

Though honesly, EA could just release SSX Tricky and SSX 3 in widescreen with smoother graphics, and it would be enough.

I also would love a Jet Moto trilogy collection.

For all that Sonic the Hedgehog pratically created the concept of a retro collection, there are a few games int he series that have never actually been re-released, or those that have been left off of most other collections. So I'd go for a semi-obscure Sonic Games collection.

1. Sonic CD - 2011 version with its fixes. I know this has been re-released a few times, but the collection would need a headliner.
2. Knuckles Chaotix - 32X, never re-released
3. SegaSonic the Hedgehog - Arcade Trackball, but seems to have been ported to the 32X and never released. So I'd do the 32X version

BONUS: Flicky (Arcade) and Dynamite Dux (Arcade) - 2 early Sega games whose characters have gone on to appear in the Sonic franchise.

I played Knuckles Chaotix for the first time this past week, and while it's a bit rough around the edges, there was enough there to love that I'm surprised it's never been re-released.

Let's see, is this ok?

How about a Mother 2 collection. The Main game alongside some fan projects.

1. Earthbound
2. Jonbound: Dark Future(Just realized this is on this site, and here I thought it was lost to time, hell yeah!)
3. Earthbound 2 Deluxe
4. Colinbound 2
5. Hallow's End
6. The Rat Race
7. EightBound
8. Undertale
9. Toby Fox's second game

Was trying to think of the bonus game for an EartBound Trilogy and you beat me to it:

EARTHBOUND TRILOGY

EarthBound Beginnings
Earthbound
EarthBound 2 (ideally, officially translated)

EXTRA: UNDERTALE
