Any chance of applying the War of the Goddess script to the GBA version of BOF I?
Or applying the Retranslation of BoF2 on Super NES to the GBA version?

From Wisconsin, USA to Oregon, USA. I've been looking forward to it for years.
Nice! If you're not a fan of cold seasons, you going to be delighted with Oregon winters!

Considering the first post in this thread, I think such projects will need to be done on your own time with permission from the original authors.

Given the number of classic 16-bit JRPGs you've done the definitive fixup patch for, I'm pretty sure I will be enjoying your work for years to come. Thanks for all of it!
I appreciate that. Thanks. :)

Oh, I'm absolutely sick of Wisconsin winters. Oregon seems to still have seasonal changes but no deathly cold or mountains and mountains of snow. I'm grateful for that, lol.

1. You've, uh, kind of missed the past page or so.

2. That's not my project, so no.

Um, no. Fair-use rules, laws and ideals mean that anything that falls under fair-use is also governed BY fair-use, meaning that if someone wants to use a publicly available fair-use hack as a base, they need only give credit. Permission is not required.

Bonesy

Didn't say anything about the legality of it, don't know why that is what everyone automatically jumps to.

It's a matter of politeness as well as potentially having benefits (insight from the dev, coding tips) and drawbacks (finding out it's spaghetti code or inefficient for your project).

Depends where you move. On the coast and around Portland it only rains once a year - it starts in September and ends in April. South from Portland along I-5 (and especially the Willamette Valley) you have proper seasons, but winter is usually mild (compared to the Great Lakes), dreary, and rainy. Summer is intense everywhere but the coast, with regular wildfires from late July to September. Further east (Bend, Christmas Valley) is high desert, with regular seasonal snow dumps that feed aquifers.

Fire-proofing your house is very important wherever you are. Also you're are at risk of a >9.0 magnitude earthquake that would destroy everything from I-5 west, and send a 100 to 300 foot tall tsunami to carry away everything below that elevation on the coast. And while none of them are currently spewing, there are volcanos in the area. Landslides are an issue in the rainy season, and during an earthquake.

Project MDust is at last released: in collaboration with mziab, Moon Healing Orchestration, a Sailor Moon: Another Story MSU-1 mod.

The default soundfont in this game is pretty bad, so mziab and I teamed up to fix that. Using the orchestral arranged soundtracks from the Sailor Moon (Season 1), Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon SuperS, and Sailor Moon: Another Story games, as well as tracks from the anime itself and some wonderful arrangements from two independent artists, the game is revitalized with a wonderful new sound.

And... that's it from me, folks. Console and handheld projects are now a thing of my past. I'll still stick around RHDN though. ;D

How to Patch Most ROM Hacks

1. Get a ROM of the game you wish to patch. Ensure its region matches that of the base project: U, E, J, etc.

I can't help you find a ROM. Your best bet is to use your search engine of choice. No parties involved in this fan project accept liability for damage incurred to the end-user, their OS, their hardware, etc. while downloading from ROM-hosting sites. However, please note that your browser should be able to catch any issues prior to downloading; adding to that, always ensure you scan a file with your antivirus program before you un-ZIP it.

2. Use ROMhacking.net's online ROM patcher. https://www.romhacking.net/patch/

This can be used on any OS. Where it says "ROM file", click the "Choose File" button. Navigate to ROM stored on your computer.

For an SNES game, the patcher will detect if there is a header or not. Headers were once necessary for copiers, or devices that would let you play ROMs on a real SNES before the advent of modern conveniences. Most projects these days ask for no header, but please take note of its requirements on its RHDN page. (It will appear in the sidebar on the left, under "Patching Information.") If the SNES ROM's header status doesn't match that of the project, the game won't load.

The patcher can add an SNES header:

Or remove it:

If a project says it needs a ROM with no header, and your ROM already lacks one, you can skip this step. Most No-Header SNES ROMs are in .SFC format. You can also skip this step if a project says it does need a header and your ROM does have one. Most Header ROMs are in .SMC format.

After you've acquired a ROM and patch, possibly dealing with its header or lack thereof in the case of SNES, click the colored "Apply patch" button in the lower right, and your patched ROM will download.

3. Load the file into your emulator of choice.

Emulation is easy once you get the hang of it, but I won't be covering that in this guide. Please refer to Fantasy Anime's "Emulation for Newbies" tutorials for more information.

Just wanted to say Thank you for all your amazing projects. You created the definitive way to play some classics, I'm grateful for all of them. Those Phantasy Star patches are amazing and I can finally enjoy the series with consistent lore and much needed gameplay improvements.

There are lots of people like me quietly out there loving your projects, I created this account to express that.

Thank you!

I will just say that I thank you for your mods, it was actually after I found one of them (Project II) on a pre-patched roms page that I started to look at hacks of other games I liked (that's how I found Final Fantasy IV Namingway Edition and A Link to the Past Redux)

FlamePurge

So... I have a weird question. I've been sitting on something I've been a bit embarrassed to release, since the game's been worked on so many times (I think there are 10 script hacks and 3 text-only retranslations? And then 3 official localizations).

Would there at all be any interest in Project III: Final Fantasy VI? It brings nothing to the table, really. But it's been done for about a year now... IDK if I should put it out there. It's pretty pointless.

Every FF VI mod can be really enjoyable, it only depends of the user. It's like the party from FF I, some users use a balanced one, others prefer only mages or melee fighters. Some users like the SNES translation, some like the GBA one, and others prefer a mix between both or even a completely new one.

I mean, I guess so...

Project III is kind of the opposite of Project II. More of a cleanup of Ted Woolsey's original script, but it doesn't really take inspiration from any other project (Other than straight-up stealing Tom Slattery's lines for Cyan at times). I didn't even use Slattery's opera lyrics, I just made sure it has proper scansion. I was intentionally trying to match Woolsey's writing style, since it was so charming. It does have a litany of bug fixes and enhancements, but it's just not very novel. This concept has been done a million times before. I'd like to release it, but I don't know if it'd be derided or not.

After much hand-wringing, I present the billion-and-a-halfth Final Fantasy VI script mod, Project III: Final Fantasy VI. Please don't judge it too harshly, haha.

Edit - I just wanted to be clear here that this isn't a new project; it was finished in Dec 2021 (As the readme indicates) and, I think, started sometime in 2018 or 2019. I just wanted to release it so it didn't sit and rot on my computer.

Don't sweat it among everything else out there. Glad you released it and I'm sure it was made with as much love as your previous projects.

Thanks. I tried, at least, and it's out there. I hope people like it somehow, some way.

I really wanted to apply these patches, too, but couldn't for various reasons.
- New Game+ (Master ZED): I've never been able to make it work on any ROM, ever, vanilla or modified.
- Dragons' Shrine (DrakeyC): I didn't test it, but I imagine this is largely incompatible with every other bug fix or enhancement I've applied.
- Brushless Sketch (assassin17): This was incompatible with another patch, unfortunately.

PowerPanda

Brushless Sketch... I very nearly implemented that one, but Sketch is already bad enough as-is. I also disagreed with the way it was implemented. Rather than tieing this to an equipment flag, it looked at the first character in the item name to see if it was the brush icon.

Nina's Sensible Spells is entirely broken. Thanks to Aegis Runestone for reporting. Somehow I mangled the pointers for dialogue selection prompts, making the entire game unplayable. I still don't know how that works. I'm taking it down for now, but I'll probably release a fixed version in the future once I have access to my PC and project files again--mostly because I made this patch for myself and thought, "This would be a neat thing to release."

Sorry about all this.

BoFII Nina spells patch has been remade. I didn't think I'd be gaining access to a Windows device (A laptop, courtesy of my partner) again so soon. A few other issues (Shir's techs in Phantasy Star II Improvement, a bug fix I'd like to apply to Project II: FFIV) will require me having my project files, which are still in my hometown. I should have probably made repos, heh.
