Mapper used in Super Mario Bros Two Players Hack

I was looking at this hack:

I noticed it uses Konami VRC6 for a mapper.  Intrigued, I open the debugger and find that it is using scanline interrupts and bankswitching CPU address space $8000-BFFF.  It appears to effectively use no other features of the VRC6.

I am wondering if I missed something.  Why this hack would not have used the much more available MMC3 mapper.


He uses VRC6 for most of his hacks because he feels like it. Don't worry about it.
