Zelda 2 Revamped is a "HD" pack for the Mesen emulator. The goal is to modify the game in a way to make it more modern. Think of it as an "All-Stars" version for the SNES.

Here's a few more images. Heavy spoiler warning!

The UI has been completely remade using the power of the HD pack feature of the emulator. There are currently no hacks applied at all! Here's a few screens of that.

New Inventory/Spell/HUD system

The NPC dialog box has also expanded to include portraits. (Don't mind the Faxanadu guy, he's just visiting!)

My friend and I have been working on this project for a few months now. We'd like to share in hopes of finding a bit of help.
Assistance, ideas, concepts, suggestions, etc are highly encouraged in this post!
We also have a discord setup for anyone interested in joining the project.

I don't believe it works to use the IMG tag for links that aren't a direct link to an image.
That is, the link doesn't end in the actual filename.

Does Google Drive give you an option for a direct link?

That's strange they show up for me but probably because I'm on my google account. I will repost them elsewhere.

The Google Drive seems to be set to private. I tried accessing the pictures but it throws me a permission error.
I personally recommend Imgur, it's as easy as drag and drop into the site and they're uploaded, simply copy the proper link to each pic.

Huh, not bad. It looks pretty well done for an HD pack.

@Giric I said it before and I'll say it again if do a similar job for Zelda 1 that would be beyond awesome

Ok Impala!

Totally awesome! I just imagined Zelda II - Amida's Curse looking like this... my oh my! Keep it up, this is looking fantastic!  :)

Bonk

Really solid and consistent art direction! Looks fabulous!

Watching this take shape on Discord has been fun and the new screenshots look great. Keep it up. For the title screen, I noticed it is a bit wider than a typical NES aspect ratio. Are you planning on a letter box type of look or are you planning on some type of sideways scrolling effect?

Also, I know you are planning on a giant .png scrolling approach for the overworld. Are you planning to use the benefits of that to adjust the edges of some of the features like the mountains to make them slightly more organic and varied?

Ok Impala!

Oh, and could you share the link to the Discord?  :)

The title needs to be reworked some. It was drawn just to have something.

Yes the sides of the map will be more organic looking. The mountains where the areas meet won't be so square looking. We'll be adding in larger mountains to break up the monotonous of it and putting in little extra details on the map, take the bridge as an example. Hills, different trees, animated water, weather effects, lots of crazy new stuff!

If you want to contribute we have a separate Discord for development than the one Axl shared, as we don't want to clutter that one too much. We have more in depth technical stuff and sharing of art ideas & concepts. It's run by the artist.

Just curious are you going to make the sword the master sword. do you think if you one day consider doing a fan remake of Zelda 1 or someone else do you think the magical sword should be changed to the master sword?

Midnight Metronome

This looks great! Is there any way you could make it work with redux and Amida's curse?

Giric

It's going to stay as the magical sword as to remain true to the original game. However due to the level up system the color tone of the sword will change through out (similar to Link to the Past tempered sword). The shield will also change in appearance!

If all goes well and we can get more people together we will work on other games once Zelda 2 is finished.

Ok the only reason is it seems odd when it's place in the timeline is set after ocarina of time and a link to the past that the main sword that's know to be tied to the defeat of ganon is the master sword. also Zelda 1 and 2 were made before the master sword existed so was the magical sword just the original name of the master sword before it got the name the master sword or what? I don't know how the canon of Zelda works anymore.

The canon doesn't fit. It's been retrofitted and shoehorned to make some sort of sense.

This happens with every piece of fiction eventually, unless a roadmap, lore and deep history was constructed before making the first entry.

Zelda was developed as a standalone project in the mid-80s, and much like everything in the industry back then, it stumbled upon success. Making sense of the entire timeline is a fool's errand, albeit a fun one.

Short answer: It makes little to no sense. It was never supposed to be such a huge franchise.
