LIPEMCO! Translations presents its latest release: an English translation of the PlayStation ARPG/simulation hybrid Community Pom!

Something's been snacking on Woolly Village's adorable Meymeys, and the townspeople aren't happy about it! While the villagers blame it on the mysterious rabbitlike Poms that appeared when the moon vanished five years ago, young Lulu knows better. With the magic staff gifted to her by the Poms in hand, she sets off on a quest to find the Poms, build a community where they can live in peace, and discover the truth behind all the incidents. And raid every dresser in the continent for trading cards along the way.

Community Pom is a 1997 action RPG/simulation game for the PlayStation, developed and published by Fill in Cafe (best known for the Asuka 120% and Kendo Rage/Makeruna! Makendou series). With gameplay reminiscent of classic 2D Zelda titles and perhaps most particularly influenced by Magic Knight Rayearth on the Sega Saturn, the game puts its own spin on things by throwing a simple but fun pet raising simulation into the mix, with the player rearing Poms to increase their combat stats and unlock new features and abilities. Imagine Zelda with a Chao Garden, and that the Chao Garden was actually useful.

It's also notable for its eye-popping amounts of cutesy graphics and sprite work – every town NPC gets a unique design!

Watch the translation in action here!

In addition to fully translating the game, this release also includes a partial translation of the game's official guidebook. It contains not just basic information, but detailed explanations of game mechanics, concept art, and even an interview with the developers. Read it here! Massive thanks to Xanathis for purchasing and scanning the entire 127-page book just for this project.

This translation was the work of LIPEMCO! Translations: TheMajinZenki (translation), Supper (hacking), cccmar (editing and testing), and Xanathis (guidebook scans, testing, and PR coach). The group hopes you'll enjoy this title which, while little known, is highly regarded by its fans.

And though you've hopefully worked it out by now: "M," not "RN."

My mind's so filthy!

I keep mistaking that M for RN.

I never heard of this game before, it's so colorful, I'm gonna try it and then write a proper comment on it.

Thank you!

LOL, you're not the only one. Even the author acknowledged it at the end of the post, haha.

Just wanted to comment that you did an awesome job with the title screen! Looks legit!

I completely missed that!

This game has got me interested.

Although, I got quite scared for a moment thinking I wouldn't be able to run it.

For some reason all plugins I tried gave me some kind of problem(screen fading to black at every new conversation display, NPCs sprites getting all scrambled and occasional staff swinging and jump missing sounds) but one, so I can play it *phew*

"One small step for Pom" does it mean there's a whole series of Pom?

I couldn't find any other game of the series.

From the dialogues it seems there's a lot going on in this game so I'm excited to get through and discover, even though I kinda suck at these games like Alundra. I miss the swing and hit enemies with my own body quite often.

Man... I just deleted this from my PC yesterday because I assusmed there would never be a translation. LOL This is some good news. Can't wait to play this and not have to do so much guessing.
Cigarettes, ice-cream, figurines of the Virgin Mary...

Nah, it's just a headline, haha. The company that made this game (Fill-in-Cafe) went bankrupt in 2000. That's ages ago, so I wouldn't expect any sequels, sadly; I am not sure if the former devs even work in the gaming industry anymore. Also, this is actually a fairly easy, feel-good game that you don't have to stress over at all. Just a good time all around.

Try as I might, I can't confuse the 'M' for an 'RN'. But I guess it's still p0rn for the translation community and fans :)

Congrats, and thanks to everyone from LIPEMCO! involved in this translation. Hope I can find enough time to play it soon...

TimeCop

This is so legitimately cool. I had figured this game was too obscure to ever bother translating.

Final Boss

Dangit, I keep reading that as "Community Porn".  ::)

Edit: *Reads thread*

At least I'm not the only one.
Also this game looks really cool, I'm glad to be able to check it out in english. Thanks! <3
It is an honor and a privilege to be among the heroes of the internet that helped shape my childhood through their romhacks and translations.

I brought this thread back to avoid creating a new one without need, does anyone know of a bugfix for the issue involving opening the menu? It's REALLY annoying having to open/close it again to remove the slowdown, the translator's group site doesnt have any fix.

What emulator were you using that caused this bug?

No emulator caused this bug, it's a known bug reported in the readme file, not fixed unfortunately, i dont know why since they fixed a few others.
