What do you think of the Saturn exclusives? Would it be impossible to work with?

Extra costumes, monsters, etc.

I had been playing this hack for awhile and I gotta say, I love what your doing to restore the game to what it should had been.  :)

Anyway There are a few quirks in the Original Soundtrack patch where the music in certain cutscenes play prematurely, for example When Richard dies from the poison. possibly due to scripting for the DualShock music.

I'm sure You'd be able to replace these rooms with the ones in the original DC 1997 version.

Has the premature music been fixed?

Deli295 has yet to know or respond before that can be patched. He's never on as he says. I'm not the Modder here I can't help you.

Also,

Have you guys seen this?!  :o

https://youtu.be/qc3arBWZlXE

THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
It looks as if it was filmed recently!!

@Deli295 Maybe swap this one with the original??

Please don't upscale, filter, or use any frame interpolation as suggested for the videos. For one, it would be straying from this projects established intent as a "pure release". For another reason, upscaled/interpolated videos look objectively worse (loss of details/grain, strange motion, artifacts etc.), though people are allowed their subjective opinion to prefer such doctoring.

The only video editing that should be considered for restoration purposes would be aspect ratio correction, but as far as I can tell they are already fine in that regard (viewed as "Force 4:3" in Beetle PSX).

MD_Prometh

this is an interesting looking romhack, RE1 has always been my favourite of the classic RE games so a definitive edition of the OG is a cool idea

Thanks for the feedback, I'll take it into account. I don't have a lot of spare time at the time, but I'll try my best to fix this issue, hopefully before the year's end. Please let me know of any other issues you might've found during your playthrough.

Don't worry, I won't be doing any filtering or unnecessary re-encoding, I agree 100% with you.

Looking forward to any subsequent updates, Deli :D
This is easily my defacto version of the original RE to play!

Btw, I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but if you do nd up releasing a side or optional patch that keeps the original Director's Cut tracks, perhaps you coyld implement the "fixed" version of the Basement Theme to make it a bit of a polished DC OST:

I don't think that's possible. Unless you had a way to rebuild the song with New samples for instruments and how to make the Sequence data which seems impossible with the available tools we have access to. Resident Evil music is not streamed or pre recorded if that's what you meant.

Oh I wasn't aware RE1 actually relied on samples for the songs.
I thought it handled the music like other ISO-based games, in which they are streamed from a direct file from within the ISO.

Shows how much I know about this game lol

Off the Record, Not every game uses Sequenced Music data. But All of the Resident EVil Games on the PS1 uses Sequence data as well as some of other games like, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Gex, Final Fantasy 7 for examples. Some Games like DOOM ps1 uses mostly Sequence and has Streamed Media as well.

Now you know. :)

Duke's right. Unfortunately, only a few PS1 titles have their music in Red Book audio format. Most games use sequence data that the sound chip can understand.

I'll take this into consideration but at the time I don't know how would I handle this. It would probably mean sacrificing other costumes in order to bring the ones from the Saturn.

I've just released the patch that fixes music played prematurely in the scene you told me. I've also found another scene with the same issue, which was Tyrant's music in the lab. That one has also been fixed.

I've been following Deli295's work and all I can say is this is awesome. ;)

However, I would like to ask a question which I am not sure if it is related to the patch (or not): does the patch deactivates dithering in the game?

Or is 'Resident Evil Director's Cut dual Shock GH' already a game that doesn't use dithering in the first place? I'm having trouble recognizing dithering both in the patched/unpatched iso's but I suspect there isn't much visible. Or am I missing something?

If dithering is activated, could it look better without it? Any opinions?

For the PS1 games, as far as I know Dithering is a hardware thing, especially when designed for CRT Televisions. So The answer would be, NO. The game itself has no dithering alone, But the Hardware that runs the game. Try Duckstation or ePsxe.

@Deli295, As for the Saturn Exclusives, If you did want to go with it, you'd had to Recreate the Character Models. Since direct Porting would be impossible due to the how the Saturn handled the Character Models. I even figured that out while debugging RE1 Saturn. as texture goes, It's made up of many Tiles for the Character Model. I'm not a pro at this stuff, and I don't know everything about the game structure in general, I could be wrong though... but Id just figured I'd let you know.

If you did manage to do so, Id recommend making it as a separate or Optional patch, like you said, There could be sacrifices to other Outfits.

I had just made a custom back label for the sake of this hack. since you already had the front label made anyway.

I hope you like it. I never noticed an error I made while making the back cover, Fixed an error.

As you say, an optional patch might be the way to go if I manage to recreate the Saturn outfits. Afaik, some people are working on PS1 tools for the first RE game but it's not out yet, so I'll have to wait.
On the other hand, thanks for the cover art, it looks pretty good. If you don't mind, I'll add it to the main post.

Go ahead. like I said, i made that back cover in case you'd wanna add that to your post.

I made a small error on that back cover, I just fixed it. sorry about that.

Could you maybe make an optional patch to use this fixed mansion basement theme?

I mentioned before it is impossible to do that unless you had a way of rebuilding the song which uses Sequence data. to be specific: It's like Midi, but with a custom header. and the samples are like Soundfonts.
Here's the Specification of the PS1 Music format:
SEQ (*.seq) - Sequence data
SEP (*.sep) - SEQ package, a file contains multiple SEQs
VAG (*.vag) - Single waveform data
VAB (*.vh; *.vb) - Sound source data, VB can have 254 VAGs at maximum, VH is header data for them

Also they're packed into HSB files which the game reads from to play the music. Resident Evil don't use redbook audio.
