I am Bunkai, currently my main project is translating the marmalade boy games from Japanese to English (and, after that, to spanish also).

With the sfc game I also want to be more helpful than just translating. In this thread you will see a log with any improvement worth to mention.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be pretentious, I am glad to ask or accept any help when provided, such as the incredible work of my project mates.

2021 December

A Gdrive folder is created to have everything organised and easy to access. It also has a walkthrought and the instruction manual screenshoted.

Denim (https://www.romhacking.net/community/2943/) has a tool to extract/insert the font:

I designed and created an englishFont.bin with yy-chr. And later created the English table file. [Font needs fixes]

A first script dump is made.

2022 March

Going through a playtrough to be sure (up to a point) that all the text is dumped before starting the translation.

Graphicus joined the team to make the english graphics.

The script translation started, using the intro + initial tutorial to test insertion with memory block transitions. Doing fixes to it when needed.

Excel "encyclopedia" is created for translation consistency.

Updated the font to fix the wacky appearance.

Some graphics have been done
(Home screen, Start/Continue/Keyword screen,
My profile screen, Boys' Data screen)

A Translation To Do list is created for all the script.
Besides, the first milestone (menus, fortune telling, charms, most tutorials and intro translated) is reached.

A "brand" for the project is created. It looks quite professional and brings more appealing.
 Using in-game snapshots.
 And a quote that arose at /r/marmaladeboy/, "Thank you for reading, and have the marmiest of days."

I haven't made much progress in the hacking side of the project but I just found what seems to be all the script text copied here:

Besides I wanted to say, that, if someone happens to have the manual and could scanlate it, would be awesome. As it could help to understand more about it. Never mind I found it in a video.

Thanks for your project, I have always liked the translations of famicom and super famicom, which for cultural reasons never reached America and this game based on an anime classic will be more than interesting to play.

Since one of my ideas is to get it translated first to English and later to Spanish, I've already drawn the ñ in the font.



Details will be up in the future, but I think this was a nice way to say goodbye to 2021

Miniupdate: There is a text script dumped, but we are going through the game to make sure it's all the text in the script (this won't be a short process from what it seems).

Images are completely on hold until the dialogue text is done. If any reader has the ability (and wants) to help with those, please say so.
[I can make translation for most of those quick since they have little text, but the skill to extract them, modify them in a nice way, and reinsert them is another different problem]

First i want to thank you for the support, last time i didn't properly answered you, sorry.
This project's translation has yet a far journey ahead and i can't even compare my translation skills to those beasts :d. But i will do my best.




Everything is ready for the actual translation of the game's text, it will start soon.

Other than that, i don't expect to make comments in some time. If you see this in that time period before updates, and you are unsure about something, write a comment and ask.

After some time charging batteries, I've come back for more.

I decided to create a "brand" for this project. I believe it looks quite professional and brings more appealing.
 For that, I will be using in-game snapshots, e.g. The "progress report" titles.

About the translation progress:
Seems like after the intro with the tutorials there's a mini trailer like scene, with an extra scene for explaining what's this game about.
I expect to have that transled in the following days, and actually (finally) starting the story next.

Apart from the story and diary notes, all other texts have been translated already.
Menus and prompts have an advanced draft.

Now I will start translating the story.
