Getting started with ROM hacking
« on: July 17, 2021, 02:49:39 am »
Context: I have a tiny bit of experience with ROM hacking, I've done small edits with Advance Map and XSE before, but nothing larger than a town. Also, I am somewhat comfortable programming in C, as I had that in college.

I'm giving ROM hacking a shot for fun and I was thinking of starting with an FRLG hack, as that's what I'm most familiar with. Back when I tinkered a bit, there wasn't any talk about decomp/disassembly, so I only used XSE for scripts. However, I saw that this is becoming a trend, and I'm wondering what you more experienced guys recommend, given my context? What advantages and disadvantages does each method have over the other?showbox speed test

honestly i'd say use the disassembly if you can, i hear those proprietary utilities from back in the day that they seem to still use for pokemon romhacking are stanky
