Pokemon Regulation Red / Blue
« on: June 09, 2021, 07:24:48 am »
Inspired by the various gen 1 challenge runs that have been blowing up on YouTube, I'm creating a hack for gen 1 red/blue Pokemon that allows you to play the vanilla game with extra rules imposed, rules such as not getting experience points, not being allowed to catch Pokemon, not using items, or having a different starter Pokemon. The point of the hack is that you can combine these various rules into your own custom challenge, and the ruleset is compressed into a "regulation code" that you can easily share with others.

Download it here

I'm still working on adding more options, and finding bugs that might have been introduced into the vanilla game because of my new code. Feedback, suggestions and bug reports are very welcome!

Version 1:

Added option to change your starting pokemon
Added option to change your starting pokemon moveset
Added option to increase level of trainer pokemon
Added option to restrict gameplay to a certain monotype
Added option to block pokemon from evolving
Added option to block exp from trainer battles
Added option to block exp from wild encounters

Added option to block TMs and HMs from being taught
Added option to block pokemon from gaining moves from leveling up
    Added option to block daycare
Added option to only use starter pokemon in battle
Added option to have pokemon permamently die when fainting

The hack now has a page, with achievements and leaderboards over at RetroAchievements:

https://retroachievements.org/game/2491

Version 3
Added option to ban running from wild battles
Added regulation code to the player status screen
Moved the glitch line to the top of the player status screen as a CHEAT label
Corrected Oak's Hall of Fame speech to give the correct starting pokemon name
Fixed bug where the no catching wild pokemon also stopped you from catching trainer pokemon
Fixed bug where the move Transform would make you violate the monotype or starter only rules
Fixed bug where the permament pokemon death rule exception applied to more than just the first rival battle
Fixed bug where Trade Stone could be sold for money
Fixed some parsing bugs in the regulation code generator

Version 4
Fixed a bug that prevented the Good Rod and Super Rod from encountering pokemon

Version 5
Added option to have your moves never be super effective
Added option for trainers to respawn when black out or use a Pokecenter (or other methods of healing your party)
Added an extra warning if you are about to save your game and have used a glitch that would brand you a cheater
Moved the Trade Stone handout from Professor Oak's Aide to the Link Club girl
Version 4 accidentially labeled itself as "v3" ingame, it's updated to "v5" now.
