My second translation project here, still a bit rough around the edges, with lot of text cut to fit.

TODO (if you can help please post in this thread):
- replace the label in the top-left "にちめ" as "DAY" (located @ 0x52FE in ROM, makes the game crash when the last char is altered)
- translate the menu box on the right side of the map (I could not find these strings in the ROM: いどう, しゅうい, かいもの, ヒフト)
- replace the game over banner GFXs
- move some pointers and translate the remaining messages (WIP)

special thanks:
- Shawnji (original translated English script)

This was from forever ago, so you may have gotten this done elsewhere, but I'm posting anyway.

The menu bar reads:
いどう (移動) - Move
しゅうり (修理) - Repair
かいもの (買い物) - Shopping, can be shortened to just SHOP
ヒント - Hint

FlashPV

I'm wondering how you'll call this?
In fact it should be Shockman 1 but that's the name they gave to the second game...

ChaddyBones

And Shockman Zero is taken up by the Satellaview English translation.

The Beaky Buccaneer

Shockman Beginnings, then? :P

Anyway, I can't wait to see where this goes - it feels like this installment in the series tends to be the most-overlooked.

I'd rather have it true to the original instead of the dumb localization terminology.

It's too bad the translation for Zero had to go that route.

Addendum translation patches in the future? We see RHDN artists do that for (S/NES) localized titles - or even the other way around!

Remodeled Townsman Shubibinman?

FYI

So uh... where is this from exactly? I've exhausted my google-fu and can't seem to find any other translations projects for Shubibinman, but this looks much more polished. Did you just do a mock up or something? Have a project in the works? If there's a more complete patch out there then any pointers towards finding it would be greatly appreciated.

I guess it is just a mockup, the original game table has no lowercase letters.

Btw my problem here was not how to translate those labels in the upper-right box, but rather that i could not find them in the ROM.

This is fantastic! I had this game growing up and it's a nice little underrated action game for the console.
The music is great on the last stage and factory stages.
The 2-player option is fun with some clever platform elements requiring the players to work together and there are a few moves 2 players can do that cannot be done when playing alone.

Thanks for your efforts with this. I'm going to try your patch asap and take a trip down memory lane.

FYI here are some pictures of the game at VGMuseum with English translation of the ending;

It looks like Shopping was also shortened to Shop here.

I'd also second some of the comments above and keep the Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman name instead of Shockman.

In terms of the problem translating the Txt in the Menu have you tried reaching out to Filler or Cabbage who have worked on PC Engine projects recently?
Filler did a great job translating and extrapolating compressed txt and Cabbage is one of the most experienced PCE programmners on here and may be able to help with any compressed graphics or artwork. They did a great job with City Hunter for the PCE a couple of years back which presented similar issues for them.

While we're talking about this game does anyone know a translation of the speech in this game?
1. At the character select screen, when selected, Tasuke shouts something like 'Yu di ga' and Kyapiko shouts 'Wi puy un'
2. When completing a stage the duo appear on screen again. Tasuke shouts 'Ya Ka Bak' Kyapiko shouts 'Ya San'
3. The characters also shout something when they hit each other with their swords.

Also what does it say at the top here?

Good luck with the project and hopefully someone can help with the current problems.
