Final Fantasy Revisited

Using Final Fantasy Restored as a base:

-Reduce need for grinding without reducing difficulty
-Restrict B-button dash on the world map
-Lower shop prices and start with 500 gil
-Increase elemental damage to 2x rather than 1.5x against vulnerable enemies (as in Grond's hack, perhaps optional)
-Implement a way to see weapon/armor viability before buying
-Restore the Peninsula of Power
-Restore the original battle barrier (spells look awkward without it)
-Tweak the translation a bit, particularly the battle menu
-Increase ship minigame reward to 500 gil
-Remove ineffective attacks (optional)
-Remove new music (optional)

In addition, I would love to make an HD pack for Mesen. I can't do graphics, but I could add support for the Origins soundtrack.

When I look at some older NES and SNES RPG games, I tend to see some of the translations of them to be either bad or a little bland. There are some JRPG games who I feel deserve the Woolseyism treatment. However, I'm not sure if anyone will agree with these RPGs of my choices would want this kind of treatment: Sailor Moon Another Story (I know, someone already did a retranslating of this, but that feels more Viz Dub style and fixing mistakes to me), Bahamut Lagoon, Wonder Project J, and maybe Popful Mail. At least, that's what my idea is anyway.
As a localizer/writer, I totally agree. The world needs more Woolseyism.

There's a fine line between Woolsey and Working Designs/J2E, though. Lately, anime dubs have fallen into that trap. And even then, I'm not fond of turning the overall feel of a script into "le ebin meme comedy!!!1!"

Because of the Adventures of Mana (Final Fantasy Adventures, Mystic Quest) Title Screen hacks, I had the idea to create a
Adventures of Mana GBC/GBA Version

Square did already a Colored Remake (dunno why this is not inside of the Mana Collection), but this could be used as reference:

I don't think of Woolsey's style as being an "epic meme comedy". I equate it to a serialized western cartoon, where the more comedic tone serves to disarm you for when the dramatic stuff happens. Avatar is the perfect example, as is Samurai Jack.

It's funny that fantranslators often want as much accuracy as possible and scoff at official localizers changing characters and meanings to be more "interesting", and that's why they will never, ever make it in the industry.

I know. I mean I'm fine with them trying to make English translations, but some translations lose their charm (like SMAS) and that's how I feel with certain fan translations. I mean I'd like to play an RPG while still being charmed with some of the dialogue, you know.

In Vice:Project Doom(Gun-Dec) on NES.
Remove the FPS stages and make them another 2 car stages instead.
I think the car stages are very cool and there are too little of them. While the shooting gallery stages are not so interesting.

Something that just occured to me is the weird Newspaper article in Mike Tyson's Punch-out does in fact not provide the player with the Mike Tyson Code but instead to a Super Macho Man fight, in fact there is no way to actually get the password to Tyson in the game, which is kind of strange to me, that you have to beat Super Macho Man first each time you want to fight Tyson and most likely you will lose and then it's right back to Super Macho Man again, when there is an existing pass key directly to the dream fight.

Also the wording on the Newspaper is really strange to, who is the daddy that should come home really?

maybe a quote from Doc Louis would look better.

I don't really know if there is a way to edit this, and it's not really hard to look up the password on the internet, but i see this more as a fix to an otherwise really good game.

You know, I wouldn't mind an uncensored Chrono Trigger translation, though keeping the Woolsey feel.

EDIT: Nevermind, someone's already working on it. My bad

Hi

I want Infinite Ammo hack for Fighting Force 1 PSX and also for Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare PS2.

And Infinite Lives hack for some Atari 2600 games, for example MegaMania, Laser Gates , Tac-Scan and Bermuda.

I have a couple of ideas more than hacks are improvements for "Super Mario World" and "Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World", if anyone is interested in doing them.

Super Mario World: change the Luigi sprite for the new one that appears in "Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World" and when we only play with player 1, we have the possibility to choose whether to play with Mario or Luigi

Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World:

Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World: when we only play with player 1 have the possibility to choose whether to play with Mario or Luigi

They're just rubbing it in now. At this rate somebody is bound to allude to my opposition to further Chrono Trigger translations, in a Chrono Trigger translation. :P

Well I was replaying the new translation of Sailor Moon Another Story. However...something felt off. I know it is suppose to be a little more faithful to the original source, but to be honest...it felt a bit narmy to me without the charm that made me invested into the plot. For some reason, I just felt bored with the translation. Maybe if this game had a Woolsey style translation to give it the sort of narm charm you see in FF6 or Chrono Trigger, I'd be more invested (I had a list of what I'd change back then years ago, but I'm not sure it applies to this game anymore)

The option to control your alternate party members in Chapter 5 of Dragon Warrior/Quest IV for the NES while allowing you the option to switch out your party members via wagon.

There is a game genie code that allows you to control your party members, but removes the option to swap out your party; YYEXVTGE (yeah, I tend to use it a lot...).

Agreed. I'd do an ultimate patch for Super Mario World with the SA-1 improvements, the good Luigi sprite, and posibily some improvements from the Game Boy Advance port, like knowing the Dragon Coins you have collected in a stage.

Also:

- Axelay: make and arrange mode where you can recover your lost weapons, instead of having to die to have it again. Also, make the game brighter the default mode.

- Contra 3:
SA-1 improvements and fixing the bug in the first stage, where a huge part of the floor clips and fixes itself when the fire disappears (almost at the end of the level).

- Chiki Chiki Boys (MD): Convert it to Mega Twins, as all the western reelased of the game were called. Make the options screen avaliable from the start, if possible.

- Gynoug: a hack that if you die in the second half of a stage, you continue at the start of the second half instead of having to play the whole level again.

- Alien 3 and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Mega Drive): Made it possible to save files in those games.

- Streets of Rage 3: bring back the original Streets of Rage 3 title screen to the japanese translation hack.

- Thunderforce IV: a patch to make the PAL version in full screen and fix the music slowdown.

- UN Squadron (Snes): Made it possible to save you game.

- Dynamite Headdy: I like a lot of the changes for the international release, but I'd like a patch that brings back some options from the japanese version:
* Start the game with 3 continues.
* Collecting 10 continue icons gives the player a continue.
* When you enter the tutorial segments, you'd be asked if you want to practice or leave the room like in the japanese version.
* Bring back the applause sound effect to Headdy's victory animation.
* Bring back the original Health Points from the japanese bosses (No more Twin Freaks desperation).

Bomberman MAX for the GBC - with all stages and Charaboms unlocked/available. Effectively, mimicking the limited edition "Ain Version" (Bomberman) and "Complete Data Version" (Max) from Japan... but in English.

I wonder if it's possible if all the spell glyphs in Ni No Kuni DS - Dominion of the Dark Djinn Wizard's Companion Book can be combined with the english patch so the patch can also unlock all the spells from the start of the game, it would be useful in case no more hard or soft copies of the book can be found anymore.

Tetris (Game Boy): A hack that will add the original Type-A music track "Minuet" from Version 1.0 as a forth Type-D music track.

Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (Game Boy Advance): A hack that will add all the improvements from the Japanese ROM to the American ROM and also restore the unused Starbeans Cafe cameos as well.

A BIG time yes to Streets of Rage 3!

A GBA script port for Tales of Phantasia.

For the SNES? I'd like that, if only to update the weird choices DeJap made. Of course, some edits to some of the other errors would have to be made, too.
