I believe the PS1 and later versions of FF5 changed it so you always have a run button and the previous run ability was changed to a double-run.
Except for thankfully the Karnak escape sequence where it changes to auto-run (which while usually a positive thing, does make turning a bit more sensitive, especially when you have a somewhat strict time limit going on).
This is true for GBA V and VI.  The fastest run abilities come from the Thief job (if you've played Live A Live, think Oboro) and Sprint Shoes, respectively.

Mobile V took this way farther: The directional stick has two speeds, apparently walk and run (you'll almost always be in run).  The Sprint ability for Thief is as fast as in GBA, is now a straight toggle, and can now be used both on the world map and in any vehicle.  I've never seen a faster speed than that airship, and it's well worth mastering the job for alone.  VI seems to have thrown out the world map abilities in mobile, though I could be wrong since it comes from a relic there.

Change the following from F0 to D0: 0x00892A, 0x008949, 0x008968, 0x008987, 0x008A41, 0x008A0C, 0x0089A6

Nice, but you missed down and left (Figured out that this reverses the check for each of the eight possible direction entries.  So the four cardinal directions are 2A, 49, 68, and 87 (adding 1F in hex to get form one to the next).  Then 87 + 1F is A6.  There we go.  So adding 1F to that is C5... don't see that anywhere in those numbers.  Then 1F to that is E4...  Then 1F to that F3...  Okay so the pattern clearly breaks down there.  So where's the last F0 to D0 change I need to make?

Ah there's an F0 0C pattern with the four cardinal directions (well now D0 0C pattern).  Maybe there's another pattern with the other controls.  Well D0 15 A9 is now the case for 0x0089A6 and 0x008A41.  Let me look closer at 0x008A0C: D0 17 A9, but it was F0 17 A9.  There's another F0 17 A9 set at 0x0089D7!  I bet that's the missing one that I also need to change from F0 to D0.  Alright, time to test it.

And BAM it works!  (Thanks by the way)

Hey guys!  ;)

I want to mod the game megaman Maverick Hunter X  for psp.
I want to stop X from getting his armor. You know change his model so he can get the armor upgrades but he won't change from his classic look. I don't like to keep playing as the first armor.
But I am new to modding so if anyone knows how to do this sort of thing, I would appreciate it if you could say how to do it.
Thanks again.

Note: if I could change X into Zero that would be awesome.
So if anyone knows how to do it great!

There is a mod of Pokemon - Fire Red called Ash's Quest and while decent, I think better could be done, especially with the sprites, side quests and keeping things to the original first series. You could even include movie content for Mewtwo and rather then catching them all, you could merely see them all, log them in your dex and slowly level the pokemon he keeps on him in the show. A major thing that bugged me about Ash's Quest is it keeps Red's sprite and honestly, it wouldn't be difficult to edit to make it look more like Ash. Black hair, bigger eyes, boom, done! I honestly am surprised that The Pokemon Company haven't made a series that follows the anime yet so building on top of Ash's Quest, maybe even using Pokemon Yellow as a base (though Fire Red would look much nicer) is a good idea for a hack. I also can't help but notice Ash's Quest got a LOT of downloads so that modder/hacker likely got some recognition for that one :3

I would like to see a hack for Metal Slug XX for the PSP that will restore the original grunts and screams for Morden and his soldiers, they used the crappy ones from Metal Slug 6.

This should be easy to do.

Ah, good catch. I fixed my notes on that.

Colorization would be good for a lot of Gameboy Games.
For Instance:
- Rolan's Curse 1 and 2
- Kirby's Dreamland 1 and 2
- Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
- Castlevania - The Adventure
- Castlevania - Belmonts Revenge
- Final Fantasy Legend/Saga 1- 3
- Sword of Hope 1 and 2

Another great idea would be taking The Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past and trying to remake Adventure of Link in top down graphics. I believe it could be done and well, just certain changes and adaptations would need to be made.

Lastly, something i'd love to see also is a hack of Lufia 3 that removes the randomly generated dungeons and have set in stone static dungeons. I feel the roguelike quality turned a few people off. Or at least more people off it then new people onto it which kinda sucks considering its a decent continuation of the story on top of Fortress of Doom.

Oh! And lastly, a title screen patch for Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru. In the english translation the title is For the Frog the Bell Tolls but the game has been referred to in English as The Frog - For Whom the Bell Tolls by Masahiro Sakurai during development of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Just for accuracy's sake. Pretty sure Toruzz is all over that colorization :3

KingMike

The title of that Nintendo game is a can of worms that I think was already discussed during the translation or enhancement patch development.
Of course, nobody can really stop anyone else from calling it what they want.

I got it. How about translations of the Digimon Wonderswan games that never got translations (or ones that sound like normal English)?

vico

Would be possible to port the Chrono Trigger DS script (minus the new areas obviously) to Chrono Trigger DS? Plus "port" the extra music from the PS1/DS version to SNES?

coinilius

Shade Aurion: Castlevania - The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge were both colourised as part of the Konami GB Collection Series in Europe.  There are autoboot hacks for them in the database, so that they can be loaded up automatically instead of going through the menus for the collections that they are on.  Of course, that doesn't mean that someone couldn't do a different and/or better job of colourising them (and Castlevania Legends would be nice to see as well).

I'd love to see quality work done to the Dragon Warrior NES series, removing the censorship, replacing the "olde English" translation with something more true to the series, and restoring the title screens to the classic Japanese dragon quest logos--all while keeping the cool improvements to the US releases like the intro segment of Dragon Warrior II as example. I know these things have all been done for the remakes but I'm particularly fond of the old school visuals and gameplay balance.

I actually started doing something to Dragon Warrior I to replace the text with a retranslation from GameFAQs and restore the title screen. The former will now be a piece of cake thanks to my DTE routine 8) while the latter is a pain because of a number of problems I encountered. >:(

Here's a thread where I provided info about my Dragon Warrior efforts: I did nothing with it after priming it for a new script, so anyone can put in their own script if they so desire:

As for the others, I've only hacked them to give double XP and gold when you win battles. Funny thing about the olde worlde dialogue: after playing them for some time, it actually grew on me. It's more interesting than the kind of bland translations you often see. :D

Idea for Mega Man & Bass (Game Boy Advance)

  • Control hack that makes weapon switching happen via L+Left/Right, for added bouns L+Up/Down could work for switching abilities without going into the menu. Meanwhile R should be used for Dash and Slide (but Down+A for Dash gets disabled, with either double-forward or R used for dash instead. preferably make double-forward optional)
  • Move some of the "CD Search" dig spots around (like that one near the end of Groundman) to make them less BS to obtain and also ensure the sparkles stays visible until the player digs it up.
  • Correct the translation to make it closer to that of Aeon Genesis in some aspects.

The weapon part first you might be able to do as a button activator cheat if you have Action Replay v3 capability. Codebreaker and Gameshark might be a bit more tricky but could still get something done I reckon.

The weapon is probably a value in memory somewhere. Shouldn't be too hard to find (the biggest annoyance I would expect is having to go out of menu to set it). If there is an actual cheat like "always equip ?" then maybe look at that, the basic weapon unlock cheats might do something else though.

A basic set weapon could be done fairly easily and you could make a few different combos to set them. Something more elaborate will involve some work as there is no subtract but you could do an if equals highest value you want set 0 again I guess (going in a circle rather than switching left right like you wanted). You could even probably make it not allow weapons you don't have yet (the weapon unlock but not equip stuff if it exists being where I would start with that).

Oh absolutely. I'd just consider Sakurai to know what he meant more then translators as he'd know the project and all and being Japanese, less would be lost in translation.

- Rolan's Curse 1 and 2
I was actually planning on doing stuff for RC2 later on down the line, considering it is one of my favorite games, colorization or a NES port are high up on my list.

coinilius

Shade Aurion: No worries - those Konami GB Collections are quite cool, there are also colourised versions of the GB Gradius/Nemesis 1 and 2, Parodius, TwinBee, Operation C/Probotector and Mystical Ninja.

I always wanted to see a new black outfit more real dark gray comic in Batman Return of the Joker NES, replace color palette in the big sprite of batman, the icon of combat with bosses, the introduction or stage clear in a new black and gray suit or black-gray armour sprite
