Sonic Retro has a huge slew of things for you to check, and they make modded ROMs available for download.

Just two downsides: First, you can't contact them on Retro if you're not a member. Second, you won't be accepted there unless you can hack ROMs (and trust me, they rarely use complete editors, they can go as far as hexadecimal modding).

For Retro members in other communities for you to contact, Stealth and Taxman (Christian Whitehead) have Twitter accounts, E-122 Psi can be seen on SEGA forums, and Lake Feperd is likely seen at Sonic United (which is in maintenance and reconstruction at this moment).

That is AWESOME!

I'd also like to see someone add the ending to Return of Double Dragon that was in Super Double Dragon. The US version had weird choices of level music.

I'd like someone to expand upon BS Zelda to make it a complete original Legend of Zelda 1st & 2nd Quest in 16 bit graphics.

I find it weird that Super Mario Advance 1 (SMB2) and Super Mario Advance 2 (SMW) both have Color Restorarion patches but not Super Mario Advance 3 (SMW2: Yoshi's Island), that one is the only one remaining with watered down colours from the 4 games.

It's the only game out of the 4 SMA games that doesn't have a good color palette (SMA4 doesn't count since that one had the colors right from the beginning).

How difficult would it be for someone to create a color restoration patch for Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island?

It'd be a matter of finding the palette data and editing it to match the SNES version. Might be a bit more complicated if the palettes are compressed for some reason, though.

I'd be more interested in seeing if anyone could restore the music. Yoshi's Island has a great soundtrack and most of the instruments made the transition to the GBA pretty well, but the marimba was replaced with a much lower-quality sample for no clear reason (which makes the main overworld theme of the game sound kind of empty and cheesy) and a couple of other instruments were affected similarly.

I have an XBOX with an emulator that lets you flip the screen horizontally and changes the left/right controls to match the now mirrored image on screen. playing super metroid and zelda3 in this horizontally flipped state breaths so much life back into the games that's its scary.
think there is a way to flip the image like this with a rom hack? of coarse the game text and such will be reversed but damn Its worth it. if you have an emulator that supports this mirror effect TRY IT NOW!

Screen flipping it often possible at the OS/graphics driver level (possibly buried in the options for projectors). I imagine some games and some systems could do it with relative ease (especially the 3d based ones) but so many games have all their internal logic wound around the notion that the game goes in a given direction.

How about the Super Mario Advance (more specifically SMB3 and Yoshi's Island) extra levels in SNES versions? In fact, just put every extra content of Gameboy Advance ports ever into the SNES roms. That'd be cool. That one hack (New SMW2) did make the bonus games actual levels so it surely is possible.

I imagine it would fairly easy to do a screen flip with matching controller reversal on any emulator that supports lua scripting.

I have been having these crazy ideas ever since February when the AVGN dug up the Friday the 13th cartdridge and a bolt of lighting brought it back to life

- make Jason move slower so the jason alarm hapens less often (in my hack the alarm is infinite)

- change the kids mechanics: the counselors must look for the children inside the cabins and take them to the large cabin by the lake and be rewared with some weapon or health when all 15 have been found and taken to safety...

- since game is split in 3 days make Jason in the first day wear the potato sack, the hockey mask in the second day and maskless in the 3rd day

- if a counselor dies while fighting Jason inside a cabin, you can retrieve whatever weapon he was using by entering the cabin and taking it from its corpse.

- a cool one but maybe not so easy to do: whenever a counselor dies outside the cabins it turns into a zombie that take more hits to kill than regular zombies and when defeated, drops the weapon he/she had when Jason killed him/her

i have more but i can`t remember them all right now

as a great fan of the Friday the 13th franchise, i really want this game to be good...

This is a wishlist, I'm not pressing anyone to make these, these days maybe we forgot about what we were playing those days, so I'm only giving people a cause for making these if it's possible. I'll be adding another frequently. If these are made we'll be thanking the hack authors.

I can't remember the combination offhand but I'm sure Contra Hardcorps already has a button combination to change the shooting mode. (A and something I think it was)

Yeah there is a lock movement by pressing X, Y, Z but there is no lock gunpoint that is what I meant.

I was watching the AVGN CD-I episodes again, and it got me wondering. Zelda 2 was an awesome game, but the only two other Zelda games to copy its style (Zelda: Wand of Gamelon and Link: The Faces of Evil) were horrible flops. So this got me thinking, could those games be salvageable if they were remade (or demade if you want to get technical) into Zelda 2 hacks?

And speaking of demakes, I've been playing the Xbox Ninja Gaiden games lately, and I think it would be kind of interesting to see the new characters from the reboot series and their stories retold in the 8-bit sidescrolling style.

Suggestion for Tyrian and Tyrian 2000 (PC) hack:
* Rebalance. Lower the value of some weapons that are actually weak, buff some weapons that should be stronger (Missile Launcher, Protron Cannon)
* Add a trigger for Special weapons (like Ice Beam, Banana Spread, Ziglon Beam, whatever sprouts along the way) instead of being used with main fire.
* Add some new weapons and ships (Would be interesting)

No need to hack this. Why? Because it's open source and has a source port. You can make a bona-fide mod or fork of the source port for this.

Well, Tyrian 2.1 IS Open Sourced and has a Source Port, but I don't think there's any simple way to make mods for it... As for Tyrian 2000, it's freeware (as we all know, GOG has it listed under this) but no Source Port, thus moding would be much harder than the previous. So there's no choice other than hacking for moding.

And then there is Tyrian 2000 GB (Not Advance), which is almost perfect but still needs some fixes.
