As for SB5 in English, I'm sure you're not the first to ask. :)

EDIT: Actually, having checked out SB5 just now, I can see that the amount of Japanese is minimal - so minimal that using the FAQ on GameFAQs would be enough to understand everything. Still, maybe I should give it a look myself...

Someone is (or was?) working on it: https://github.com/DS-ROM-Hacking/SBM5_SFC_EN

Ha, I just spent the last hour or so having a go at it myself. The only Japanese text I can see is the menus, which are compressed. I've got as far as finding where they are, but it'd take me a bit longer to figure out the compression routine. I decided that I didn't need to worry about the compression anyway since there's enough free space to insert my own uncompressed graphics, but I haven't yet got them loading. I'm taking a break now. This person seems to have been a bit elaborate in their Github setup, my hacks are never as organised as that. :D I really think that I could get this done in a day or two, really.

To better match 'Earthbound Beginnigs' and 'Earthbound'.

(Or would Earthbound Advance be better?)

Hi. Im new here actually. And im just curious about someone if could hack golden axe 2 to be playable through 6 gamepad buttons. Im really a fan of six buttons and the reason that it doesn't really fixed when you hold the mode button while you turn on the game. Its working but it has control mapping problem. Iike mode button is forward. And x. Y. Z are the other directons. This problem only found on the consoles. Not on the emulators.

So what im thinking. Is to hack those buttons and add some extra button orders for the x y z. Same like it does in street of rage 3 :)

I was watching the new TAS of Old Axe Armor mode in Portrait of Ruin http://tasvideos.org/6363S.html and was reminded of the Nest of Evil in that game, which contained many bosses from Dawn of Sorrow. It would be great if a Nest of Evil type thing was inserted into Order of Ecclesia, or the Nest of Evil in Portrait of Ruin was expanded on, such that any one game would have all the bosses from the other two. Insanely ambitious, I know, but it would be amazing for the DSVania randomizer, as well. Don't take my lack of mention for Dawn of Sorrow as admission that it would be worse off, either - I don't particularly care which DSVania would be receiving this hack, if it's even considered at all by someone with the talent and coding knowledge.

I wanted to import custom sprites for my SNES mod of Prince Of Persia.
The problem is that most graphics in the game are compressed, with very few exceptions, like hitpoints or the princess room torch.
The compression algorithm of the sprites is known and documented here: https://www.princed.org/w/index.php?title=SNES_format#Sprites
And a tool to extract sprites is also available (which is written in PHP): https://forum.princed.org/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=4236
But no tool to import sprites has been created.

My modifications are intended to be mainly for some color swaps/clothing additions for the Prince, Princess and Amazon graphics, for example:

A Eternal Champions (Sega Genesis) rom hack would be awesome. For starters, make it so you can link and cancel normal and special moves together like you can in the Sega CD one. The original EC could've been a good competitor to SFII and MK if it had the combo system like those fighters. The AI definitively needs fixing, most people find it so difficult that they can't make it pass the 1st opponent, plus they block way too much, so you end up having to resort to using nothing but throws which makes fights boring and they shouldn't be allowed to use special moves when their Inner Strength meter is empty (It's the little ying yang symbols next the health bars).

This would be confusing. Mother 3 should be Earthbound 3 and Earthbound should be Earthbound 2.
Now you're playing in... three dimensions.

A GBA Breath of Fire 1 and 2 title screen restoration patch would be cool. As would encounter rate modifiers for games like Lufia and other older JRPGs which just have relentless encounter rates.

It would be hard to implement a camera like Sunshine since the N64 doesn't have a right analog stick.
My suggestion for a quality of life hack for Super Mario 64 would be:

  • Try to implement a camera system similar to that of the Banjo games. I feel like those control the best out of the entire platformers from the N64 era, and are the closest to the newest scheme of camera control.
  • Implement Luigi as a playable character with his own custom abilities (from SM64DS maybe) and sound clips. Toggle between Mario or Luigi in the Select Game menu with a button input or something.
  • Add the bonus stars/maps from Super Mario 64 DS (without the stupid mini games of course, just the other new 30 starts)

Well.. QoL means to improve the gameplay not the content. But I agree with the camera. A Banjo camera would be also fine.
At least a camera to center it behind mario would be a big step forward concerning playability.

Parodius (SNES, PAL version): restore the uncensored graphics from the japanese version.

Looking forward to it. As someone who plays this game once in awhile with friends, but not often enough to remember the menus, it would be very helpful to be able to read them, Battle Mode specially.

I feel I ought to temper expectations a tad. I said I COULD get it done in a day or two, but right now I just don't have time on my hands to sit down and do it, so don't hold your breath, guys. :) I felt rather confident when I looked at it a few days ago, but after seeing that other guy had done a lot of research, I wondered if I should leave it to him, but he might have forgotten about it...

But still, it would be great if someone translates the game. Even if we have several translations, it is better than nothing ;)

Personally, I'd love to see a co-op hack for SMB2 USA, The Lost Levels, and SMB3. With The Lost Levels, I would *think* (but could be very wrong) that a lot (if not all) of the data from the SMB co-op hack could be used. As for SMB3, it's certainly co-op capable with the battle mode code, in theory. ;)

Super Bomberman 5 translation for multiplayer games?

I could recommend Bomberman Party Edition for PS1. Seems like nearly the same thing in terms of multiplayer content, from my memory.
(maybe not so recommendable for single-player, is just NES Bomberman 1 with an optional graphics upgrade, as well as memory card and vibration support)

I understand that this is my second post on this thread, but I once envisioned a hack of Pokemon Red/Blue that replaced the original 151 Pokemon sprites with those used in FireRed/LeafGreen that would've been released on the day the original Red/Green was released about two-to-three years ago. This would've also included replacing the back sprites of the Pokemon with those from FRLG.
