The Mario Golf games are more or less spiritual successors to the NES Golf, and the Game Boy game even has the slide-whistle noise after you hit the ball. Plus they have great soundtracks on top of all that. You could play those instead if the NES game is getting old.

Thanks, but that is really counter intuitive to the goal here. After all, we are on romhacking.net and not "gobuysomethingelse".com. Sorry to be rude, but please understand that some do have a desire to learn and taking the easy way out isn't everyone's preferred option.

I had a crazy idea here.

D'you guys know the Luck Mode in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? I was wondering if it is possible to add modes for the other three stats: Strength, Constitution and Intelligence. The reason? I remember Circle of the Moon going that route. So, why not the game who mayc actually have inspired it?

Fair enough. It was only a suggestion.

What about a hack of Ocarina of Time where you could enable/disable the Iron Boots with the press of a button?
Ala 3DS version.

That would greatly enhance the experience of the game, bringing down a well known nuance!

One which puts the two types of boots as C button items would be even better (and just like the 3DS game).

On another note, you know what I'd like to see?  ROM hacking related apps for iOS and Android phones.  It'd be a great way to get more people into this hobby, and could even mean we'd get tools with decent interfaces and what not (instead of a bunch of command line stuff and really archaic looking Java programs).

Even better if you could draw the level tiles like in Smash Bros for Wii U's level editor...

Oh, and here's another idea.  How about a Super Mario Bros 3 crossover ROM hack?  Cause for some reason, almost all crossover games seem to be SNES styled.  So it'd be nice to see a SMB 3 hack where Mario fights Dr Wily, Dracula, Ganon and other popular eight bit era villains while exploring levels based on Mega Man, Zelda, Castlevania, Ghosts and Goblins, Ninja Gaiden, etc.

I have an idea. Whoever made YY-CHR can make a native port for Linux. Either that or make Tile Molester easier to use than this whole block and whatever system. I can't get anything at all to line up the way I want where a full sprite is inside of a designated block so its easy to edit.

3D OutRun (3DS): A hack that changes the car back to the Ferrari Testarossa.

F-Zero (SNES): A hack that adds the Ace League from BS F-Zero 2 to this game as a fourth league.

Bangai-O (Dreamcast): A hack that restores the Ghost Boss and the Continue Screen from the Japanese version to the American version.

Makai Island (NES): A hack that adds the directional arrow that helps you in finding out the location to the next pirate ship and the skeletal ghost boss that appears on the ghost ship from the MSX2 version to this version.

Strider (Genesis): A hack that restores Hiryu's yell and Grandmaster Meio's "All sons of old gods, Die!!" speech from the Japanese version to the American version and also a color hack to make it more like the arcade game.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors - Real Weapons

I'm pretty sure a lot of the silly weapons on ZAMN were because the game was to be marketed to young kids and so an order to tone down the violence they make the gun a squirt gun and instead of grenades you have soda cans which exploded.

What I want to see is a hack that modifies the weapons such that all the silly weapons are replaced with real weapons.

For instance:

Water gun becomes real looking gun

Soda cans become grenades

Plates become ninja stars

Forks become knives

Basically replace all the silly weapons with more mature weapons to give it a more adult take.

I want to see a hack of Majora's Mask which lets you play as the Fierce Deity anywhere...

Except no crashes, freezes or other issues.

So in other words, every NPC has specific dialogue for the form, the mask can be used anywhere, all enemies and bosses can be defeated with it alone and that form of Link can use doors, ladders, the ocarina, etc.

I seriously don't get why Nintendo doesn't do this in the actual game to be honest.

I don't think it's kid-friendly marketing but just that it was meant to be a silly parody game.
Just my opinion, though.

Didn't LucasArts usually do more odd games when they weren't doing Star Wars or Indiana Jones?

In my opinion this would make the game much more generic and place it with every other Zombie shooter ever made. That Zombies Ate My Neighbors stands the test of time is because it didn't acquiesce to that generic fare of bullets, grenades, etc. What this is asking for isn't an "adult's taste" it's really a teenager's taste who believes that everything needs guns with bullets and over-the-top explosions if the game is going to be about zombies.

Again, this is just my opinion.

How about a version of a game where you have to use a difficult weapon as your default weapon? Such as say a Megaman series hack where you play you don't get Mega Buster from the start of the game but rather you're stuck with Super Arm, Power Stone, Top Spin or some other useless weapon as your default weapon. This would mean from the start of any level you would have to go through an entire level avoiding enemies rather than destroying them or figuring out creative ways to destroy them. This would make a pretty hardcore challenge IMO. On the upside you would get an unlimited supply of that weapon but who cares, its useless anyways.

Midna

Sounds like an interesting challenge, but in the first game, making your "starter" weapon the Super Arm would mean the player would be forced to select Cut Man first (as far as I know, he's the only Robot Master who not only has Super Arm blocks in his room but can be killed by them) first, which kind of destroys the non-linearity the series is famous for.

One of my dream projects is to hack Actraiser into a building-sim-only by removing the action stages. Not that they are bad but I always liked the sim part best and snes has plenty of good action but not enough sim games.

I actually gave this a shot myself since the documentation on the wiki of this game is really good but as I'm a pretty crappy hacker with little sneshacking experience and also had issues with the snes debuggers constantly crashing I gave up. I figured it would be fairly easy to accomplish by just tagging all the action stages as cleared, however it might break some story/progress sequencing so ideally the stages would be tagged as done at the time they would appear normally. I might go back and give it another shot if someone more experienced would be willing to help.

True. Another option would be to change the layout of a Robot Master's room and to give a main character no weapons at all and have the spikes and hazards in a Robot Master's room damage the Robot Master. The goal would be if you have no weapons to lure the Robot Master into the hazards. You would have to do this in order to get a Robot Master's weapon. This way there could be many ways to destroy a robot master. Now as far as a default weapon Super Arm could work very well in a scenario like this.

The Japanese version of Ocarina of Time: Master Quest for the Nintendo 64... but on the original Ocarina of Time 1.0 base engine.  Eyeball frog early and such.  I would get all the fake wurs in All Dungeons, Dungeon Dice Monsters, and 100%.

Socket was a big Sonic rip off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRl8UNzmGpk

I'd love to see a character hack of Socket which replaces him with Sonic. Or even if a Sonic game were turned into a Socket one.

M-Tee

Well, you won't find a shortage of insert x-character into y-games here, Sonic being the most prominent.

I recall Elec Man had blocks in his room. Don't know about the killable part as... well, Elec Man is just OP and you probably need those blocks to have a hope of avoiding the Elec Beam (or Thunder Beam I think is the official name)
