V2.0 of the Megaman: Super 16-bit Graphics Pack for Mesen has been released! First released a couple years ago and previously known as Megaman 30th Anniversary HD Pack, there's been a number of substantial changes and additions, fully overhauling the pack with things like multi-parallax backgrounds, animations, a fully remixed soundtrack (optional for those who want the old school chiptunes), customization options like multiple player skins, gameplay hints (similar to Navi Mode, but more useful), and more.

On the technical side of things, it has been completely redesigned from the ground up with logical filenames for all sheets with each sheet being dedicated to particular enemies, stages, bosses, etc. This makes both further updates and end-user modification much easier, and as such, the project is also available on github.

Downloads are available on the linked ROMhacking.net forum thread. Enjoy!

That's actually a good 16-Bit look for Mega Man, outside of his Mega Man 7 appearance. Thankfully, since it's using the Mega Man 1 game on NES through the MESEN emulator, at least the gameplay will be better than the Wily Wars version.

Looks really cool !
At a bit of a loss on how to get this working.
Is is possible to link the project's romhacking page in this thread ?
Also, would this run on a "repo-cart" or is this emulator only ?

The default skin that is coming in the main set is not Megaman but Roll, in fact, it is an excellent work, very good indeed, congratulations.

HD Packs are a feature specific to the Mesen NES Emulator. You'll have to download and use that one.

They also have documentation on how to get the HD packs working.

Amazing!

I like textures, I am more a MM7/MM8 sprite fan, but this is still pretty cool.

This is not a hack, it's an HD Pack created specifically for the emulator "Mesen", which means it would not work on real hardware.

Imagine if this is what Mega Man Legacy Collection actually was.
Also, imagine if this had a better title screen.  (:

I'm completely and totally unfamiliar with the ins and outs of Mesen and other emulators and engines that, basically, slap stuff on top of what already exists.  My sole experience, on that front, has been with Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Angel Island Revisited (aka "Sonic 3 AIR").  Back when I heard of that, I was unimpressed.  Then I gave it a try and... I was very impressed!  From what I can see here and in the original thread, I'm getting that same kind of vibe from this project.

This looks pretty neat and I think this would definitely appeal to people who liked how The Wily Wars looked, but didn't like how it played.

I'm not crazy over the title screen either, to be honest lol but I spent way too much time on different variations of it and just ended up using this one. The good thing is this pack is very easy to mod so if anyone wants to take a crack at their own version, have at it! Here's the github if you prefer doing it that way, or there's always the old school zip up the files and host them somewhere.

Oh, and the pack has customization options for the Japanese style Rockman logo, Japanese style Megaman logo, and the US style Megaman logo, all without the Super appended to it.

EDIT: And I forgot to mention, if using the Rockman versions, the ending cutscene text will say Rockman instead too. Make sure if you're using a different Megaman player skin (Roll's skin changes the text to Roll and has her own title screen anyway) that you copy the player skin and then the title screen you'd like to use.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved. It looks like a lot of work went into this and I think it looks great!

Thanks a lot for this!  :)

All of you created probably the best 2D remake(I consider "Powered Up" a 3D game category), better than SEGA's in my opinion.

I don't mind if they were PS1, SNES or NES sprites but I always want balanced simetry, and that's what this projects offers  (Wily Wars SEGA didn't do that, just see Protoman), of course, the ogg music(customizable) adds a lot of life to it.

I really hope you can do this treatment with the rest of NES games, specially 4-6. Can proudly say I beated my first playthrough!

I wish I was able to log a permanent review for this outstanding project (if it had its own page), but seeing as it is not a "romhack", this will have to do. I just cannot recommend this pack enough, the new graphics (and new music remixes, though that experience may vary in the months to come due to copyright issues) coupled with all of the added backgrounds and visual flair make this the definitive version of Mega Man 1 (on the NES at least). The massive amount of love put into this pack was evident to me as I played today, and I have a high level of respect for AxlRocks for devoting his time and energy to bring us this masterpiece. I'm excited to see what he does in the future and will eagerly wait for his (potential) upcoming Mega Man HD Remasters.
