Hey folks, this is my first post.

I've had the Everdrive MD for years but just upgraded to the Mega Everdrive V2 for Sega CD Ram/save states. I wanted to practice running through one of my favorite games from my childhood (Battletoads and Double Dragon) in an attempt to beat it. And of course I found out that this is one of the few games that doesn't seem to have the in game menu function working.

I noticed that a person on this site that goes by the name Ti released a hack for this game that changes the following:

"This hack restores NES sounds for power hits.

+ PAL conversion (music speed adjusted for PAL consoles).

Also this hack enables to work save-load-exit menu on Mega Everdrive."

This hack is cool, but I've noticed that the new NES sounds have caused some slowdown during each hit. I honestly just want to be able to play the game as originally intended but with save state support on real hardware. The in game menu works with this hack.

Does anyone have any idea how to preserve just the in game menu functionality for this game? Is that even a thing? I'm a noob when it comes to hacking roms. Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the link for the hack:

Well, presumably the changes to the sound effects will be a couple, continguous blocks of bytes somewhere in the ROM. So, you could try using IPS Peek to guess at which changes in the patch correspond to the sound effects, and try leaving those out?
