Celebrate Super Mario World 30th anniversary with Super Luigi World! Luigi steals the spotlight in this iconic platformer for the SNES. Play the original levels with the same classic gameplay, but this time you're playing as Luigi!

Features
  • Luigi's sprite from Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World
  • Luigi is now Player 1 and Mario is Player 2
  • All text now refers to Luigi, including:
    • A modified title screen logo
    • Savefile names
    • Message boxes
    • Boss clear texts
    • The ending text after beating the game
    • Credits

The inspiration for Super Luigi World came from playing the second half of Super Mario Galaxy in the 3D All-Stars Collection. This spawned the idea of creating a Luigi-version of Super Mario World dedicated to Luigi-fans!

QuoteIt always felt off that the ending said "Mario's adventure is over." even if you beat the game as Luigi.

Super Luigi World restores the balance as you can now play as Luigi in a 1 Player Game or force your younger siblings to play as Luigi's red brother in 2 Player Game mode!

What started as a seemingly easy beginner project quickly began to take more time than expected. It was a fun way to start getting into romhacking but most of all it granted a new appreciation for the effort this community puts into these projects!

Please enjoy, Super Luigi World!

I love hacks that give Luigi the limelight. Always felt he's the better, more likeable of the brothers, so thanks for making this.

Any chance to give him the different physics he has in some games, even as a separate patch? I always liked that about SMA2: SMW because it differentiates him even further from Mario.

Thank you for the comment and feedback!

The goal of this project was to transplant Luigi from SMAS+SMW to the standalone version of SMW and create a sort of parallel universe were Luigi was the main character all along. A lot of effort was put into keeping as much as possible of the original game's logic intact and trying to make it seem like an officially released product. That's why I reused all memory addresses and replaced the original palette and graphics data instead of expanding the ROM size and putting all the new data there.

I hope that makes sense :) Maybe I should put that in the description or readme.

So SMW:SMA2 physics is outside the scope of this project, but it's a cool idea! I personally didn't enjoy Luigi's physics and played with Luigi riding on Yoshi as much as possible :P I do however love the extra content the Super Mario Advance-series added. Like the menu keeping track of your progress collecting dragon coins in SMW:SMA2 or the secret levels in YI:SMA3.

I'd love to see all the SMA2 features (including Luigi physics) backported onto SNES if that hasn't been done yet! It would be like a kind of Definite Edition with GBA-content and color/resolution/sound of the SNES. It would be a lot of work but if someone wants to collaborate on something like that, I'd be interested!

Another idea I had was to create checks and have the in-game text switch between Mario/Luigi depending on what character is actually in use. I'm currently looking into Virtual Boy Wario Land so I can't 100% promise I'll work on SMW anytime soon.

Looks cool. I still bust this out once a year or so. Green is my favorite color and I can remember playing this back in the day, starting a game in two-player mode, giving all of Mario's lives to Luigi, intentionally killing Mario and then continuing to play as Luigi. LOL
Cigarettes, ice-cream, figurines of the Virgin Mary...

Red Soul

Even though I prefer red, I am also guilty of killing off Mario by giving Luigi all of his lives, hah.

Okay, I decided to check the hack and I really like it, so thanks.
Are there plans to replace the crouching while riding Yoshi sprite? I still need to check the running on vertical walls sprite.

Edit: It seems that one, as well as Luigi gliding with his cape and grabbing to fences are still Mario sprites, despite having Luigi's palettes.

Thanks so much for making this, I've been searching for something like this for quite some time. My SNES Mario collection feels complete now.

The graphics are transplanted directly from SMAS+SMW. It should be the same as playing with Luigi in that version. Let me know if you find any differences!

You're welcome! It makes me so happy to hear that!

I just submitted an update to version 1.1 fixing an issue reported by matheus153854 in his review. Enjoy!
