Seeking someone to do the hacking/reverse engineering work to insert the translated script, and facilitate the replacement of any necessary graphics to render all Japanese text into English for Nazo Puyo: Arle no Roux (Puyo Puzzle: Arle's Roux) on the Sega Game Gear. My priority is to cut down the translated script as little as possible, and to create a nice looking translated version of the game.

I've dumped and translated all the dialog text I can find. I have not translated the text that appears on the puyo puzzles themselves, but I'm happy to do so via some sort of graphics dump, screenshots, or video. The text is graphical and doesn't follow what I'd consider a text encoding.

The following archive includes notes of the offsets where dialog text is located, a table file for the dialog text, and the translated text files. https://mattsmessyroom.com/uploads/nazo_puyo_arles_roux.zip

FYI: I have several other Game Gear projects similarly ready to go. I'd love to find someone interested in working on multiple projects, but if you're only interested in this one that's fine too. Excited to work together with someone I've worked with in the past, or someone new.

Hello!

So I looked a bit into the game, and the title logo starts at 39697, and naturally, it is compressed. After a cursory glance into the assembly code, the game RLEs the transparent bytes and has a provision to duplicate a previous row of bytes should it detect a match.

I will look into it more during the weekend, and bar any surprises, I should be able to whip up an extractor.

Awesome news! Somehow I missed this earlier. I assume you're talking about extracting the title screen. Keep me posted!

Any progress on that title screen? Is anyone up for tackling script insertion?

Hi, I just pulled down the translation and started working on an insertion patch. May be a bit slow since it's my first one, but the script's pretty short and I do already see it working as I make some edits. I'll post back when I have a patch ready.

Hi, so despite the small script length, my novice skills are making this a bit slower than I have free time for, and I'm not sure I can really commit to finishing it out.

I did manage to get the intro cutscene (script 05), the "leaving the area" dialog (script 00), and the Skeleton-T encounter (script 01 part 1) working in game. Is there somewhere I can upload my IPS so that's available to assist anyone?

I'm not ruling out my ability to come back to this in future, but for now I can't commit and have to table it.

Thanks for your work on this so far. I'd love to see this finished up. You can of course use the submissions form to add an "unfinished" translation patch. That's probably the best way to share your work so far. You could include it in a package along with any notes/tools if you want. https://www.romhacking.net/translations/addentrypage/

Alternately you could post a link to the same sort of stuff in this thread I suppose.

Sorry for the late reply! Okay, I bundled up a folder with the current patch and notes, it's submitted for processing now

Okay! I've posted the initial pass (intro, trying to quit, and Skeleton-T encounter) at https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6227/ , I will keep at it now that I realize I can post gradual updates, I was just initially worried about potentially taking months to do a full translation all at once.
