A new update is here! I made a lot of progress in the last few weeks. All temples are finished now, including two(!) Great Palaces. Though, understandably they are a little bit less "Great" now due to space restrictions. I had to use every last bit of space to fit in all the unique rooms. I tried to mirror as few rooms as possible. Now all the main areas are designed, what's left are all the small areas for heart pieces, extra lives etc. And of course there are still some graphics to change like the Title Screen, Game Over Screen and the Credits Sequence.

Trax was so kind to offer help on editing the Title Screen, so he's working on that. Can't wait to see what he comes up with!  :)

If someone with pixel art skills is interested in working on the Game Over and Credits scene, then let me know. I already have the idea in my head what I would like to show on those screens! Feel welcome to send me a message!  :)

I updated the OP with the latest progress. The last month I completed all dialogues, they only have to be implemented in the game. I spend a lot of time tweaking all kinds of small stuff, like changing pixel art, fixing bugs, and adding new areas for hidden secrets. Meanwhile Trax made progress on the title screen, which we hope to share soon.  :) If you'd like to be the first to know when Zelda 2 - Amida's Curse releases, be sure to subscribe to my e-mail list on https://www.okimpala.net/zelda-ii-amida-s-curse . For quick updates,  be sure to follow my Twitter: https://twitter.com/OkImpala . The next few weeks will be spend on polishing the game as much as possible before beta testing starts!  :)

The graphics in this screen will change. But the intro text is final.

Ok Impala!: an important suggestion, we already have zelda 2 so don't put the number 2 in this game which is totally different and new at least for me, how about the title be "the legend of Zelda - Amida's Curse" what? he thinks? And finally, can he have a bigger lesson with his sword to make the game easier and more fun?

Thank you for you suggestion. I'd like to keep the 2 in the title, to show that this is a hack of Zelda 2, so people do know what to expect from it. The game will be way better balanced than Vanilla Zelda, so don't be afraid of cheap deaths!  :)

I understand, but if you leave number 2 it doesn't look so good, besides whoever is going to download the game will know that it's a zelda 2 hack, you don't need to leave number 2, it makes the game look bad. :(

Zelda is not even in the game, so you may even remove Zelda from the title altogether. But it's just a detail, in the end.

EDIT: Zelda is in the game, I just initially assumed she was not in the game because of the storyline.

Hi All,

Where to start?! This has been an amazing month of development on Zelda II - Amida's Curse. GTM has been a great help in creating new Temple graphics, Trax has helped me tremendously in changing ASM related stuff and BentGlassTube implemented a whole new soundtrack. You won't believe your ears, it's that good! Loads of bugs and gameplay issues where fixed and tweaked. I'm in the final stage of development, where the focus is completely on creating the ultimate Zelda II experience! I've updated the OP accordingly. Please check out some new screenshots and stay tuned for the eventual release date.  :)

One final issue we are dealing with is the "Fairy flies through door" glitch. If anyone has any pointers on how to make it so that Fairy form is blocked by doors, that would be greatly appreciated! PAL version PG02 (or REV2) did it, so it is possible... but how?

Hi all,

Zelda II - Amida's Curse is out now! You can download it here: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6292/

Follow along on Twitter: https://twitter.com/OkImpala
Visit my website to stay up-to-date on future projects: https://www.okimpala.net

This topic can now be used for discussion about the game. Please don't post spoilers. The game was thoroughly tested by multiple players, but in case you find some obscure bug, please contact me at: impala@okimpala.net

A fix for one known bug is awaiting approval right now. If you are playing v1.0, please pay attention on this screen:

The bug will trigger at this location if the bot drops something and you take it. If you leave the screen after that, the key will despawn. Version 1.1 will fix this, and will be up soon. For now, ignore a drop from this bot and you are safe.

I actually fell victim to that bug myself. I had to reset the entire game and get back there to continue.

Sorry to hear that. We tested this game thoroughly, but these kind of bugs are hard to test.  :-\ I never encountered it myself, and must have played through the whole game from start to finish over 20 times. The chance is actually pretty small that this bug triggers. Let me know if you encounter any more bugs so I can fix them right away!

Meanwhile I did some further research and discovered that a corrupted drop table is causing enemy drops to despawn items when you leave the current screen. Most players won't encounter this problem, since it is pretty rare. I've uploaded version 1.2, that will fix this issue once and for all. You can grab it right now: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6292/
