I think I have this working in Retroarch with the Mesen core. I didn't see an Install HD Pack option, so I had to put the files in RetroArch/system/HdPacks. Also had to apply the ips patch manually for it to work. Haven't been able to try the standalone, since I can't download the dev version due to Windows thinking it's a virus.

Windows thinking it's a virus.
Turn Windows Defender off and replace it with something not as irritating or invasive, like Comodo or Avira. Windows Defender is more annoying than useful as of late.

Love the HD pack.   But I am a fan of the 8 bit music.   When I delete the music and load the pack, it MOSTLY works fine, but the hearts disappear (cant see my health, it becomes transparent).

Is there a known way to load the pack and keep the original audio?

It's possible to tweak the .ips file to keep the original sound. However, substituting .ogg files would probably be the path of least resistance. I may look into bundling some additional options in a future rev level.

I also seem to be having an issue with the Heart container display. Hearts are not visible and only a fully empty heart container is displayed. The area with the full hearts is transparent and only fills when the heart container in that block is fully empty.

That picture looks like it is most likely a .ips compatibility issue. Did you make any manual adjustments to your ROM or the bundled .ips file? Since Mesen auto-patches the bundled .ips file, no manual adjustments should be necessary. I have heard that some individuals tried to manually patch before using the pack and it caused the issue in your picture. Also, does your ROM match the requirements noted near the download section? The pack must be used with a USA Zelda ROM (PRG0) that has a SHA-1 checksum of DAB79C84934F9AA5DB4E7DAD390E5D0C12443FA2. Otherwise, it will likely have issues like the problem shown in the picture.

The Mesen HD pack versions are great. And these remastered packs are a great way to re-visit the old games. Because I know a few games that are in need of some remasters.

I think you called it. It was a combination of the ROM version as well as a tutorial I found on Youtube that said to remove the alternate folders in the remastered folder within the HDPacks. It's working great now. Thanks for the quick response.

Based on a couple requests I've seen on this board, as well as my own tastes, here are a few files I made that you can insert into your HdPacks>ZeldaRemastered folder, if anyone wants them:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bcc8b7cdas2xmzr/AAAY210ipwiINsR-NctTn7aNa?dl=0

this includes:

original title screen music
original overworld music
original dungeon music
original ganon's lair music
original "secret found" jingle
original "play flute" sound
world map with no "flute" symbol on the ground
world map (2nd quest) with no "flute" symbol on the ground

Just overwrite the file in HdPacks>ZeldaRemastered with the same name for the ones you want to change.

I want to stress this is just for personal taste, and not a criticism of this fantastic project!

A new version of Zelda: Remastered is now available (version 1.3). It contains a couple of bug fixes and it also includes 8-bit music as on option in the "ZeldaHDAlternateSound" folder as requested by a number of users.

In the previous versions, whenever players had the note (a.k.a the letter) but not the boomerang, item cycling would not function properly. Special thanks to ShadowOne333 and gzip for assistance in fixing this issue.

A video detailing the insertion process is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-OVMl9IHfg

The required dev build of Mesen can't be downloaded anymore  :(

The author of HDNes (mkwong98) created a fork for Mesen recently that seems to be compatible with this pack. It can be found here: https://github.com/mkwong98/Mesen/releases

Awesome! so stoked to try this out, but could someone post a working link to the 0.9.9.62 dev of mesen?

Unfortunately, Sour is no longer working on Mesen. As a result, the link to the developmental build has expired and no longer seems to be available. Thankfully, mkwong98 recently forked the emulator and this new version appears to be compatible with the Zelda pack. Try the mkwong98 version of Mesen available here instead of what is listed on the legacy Mesen website:

Yes, I can confirm that it's working. I'm using the 64 bit however.  Make sure that you have the correct zelda rom.

Thank you for the amazing work on this! Quick question: will it be possible to have this as a full *** package so then it can be turned into a cia file or something similar? I think it would be great to have it on the go or on consoles/raspberry.

As far as a full ROM package, I wish I could - But, I'd like to stay away from distributing any actual ROM files - This is for the same reason ROM files are not included with traditional .ips patches available on Romhacking.net.

When it comes to using the pack on a mobile device or a console - Technically, it is possible to run Mesen HD packs via Retroarch - But, often times packs don't run well on mobile devices, consoles, and Raspberry Pis because the CPU can't keep up. I have seen a couple of videos of individuals attempting 2x HD packs on various devices. Below are a couple of results:

Metroid: HD on Raspberry Pi 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeZI6tsfnhU
Metroid: HD on Nintendo Switch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcCh8iIRUfs

For kicks, I even tried the Zelda pack myself on an untethered Oculus Quest 2. The results were very similar to Nintendo Switch performance. So much for Mesen HD packs in untethered VR (at least for now :)).

I'm glad you like it and I'm glad a lot of things came together to make it possible :)
