Kirby's Pinball Land and the Pokemon Pinball games are pretty fun! That being said, regular pinball in virtual form just doesn't do it for me. :P
Mega Man 7 > 3 > 2 > 9 > Wily Wars > 10 > 5 > 6 > 4 > Powered Up > V(GB) > 1 > The Power Fighters > The Power Battle > IV(GB) > III(GB) > II(GB) > Dr. Wily's Revenge(GB) > 8 > Mega Man and Bass > Mega Man (Game Gear) > Mega Man and Bass - Challengers from the Future

Physical pinball has a certain visceral feel that games can't quite match.  Except I've never been very good at physical pinball, and machines often have broken parts, and they're expensive to play.  I wish there was some way to get better at them.

I'd like to buy the virtual version of Medieval Madness, but it's never been available for cheap.

The only playball I've ever played is the one that came with some versions of Windows. And yes I liked it.

Do you mean Space Cadet? It turns out, that was actually a demo, there are several other boards allegedly.

I've never actually played pinball on a physcal machine, but I have played Pokémon Pinball, Space Cadet, and Sonic Spinball. I kinda really like the gritty grindy industrial music and  visuals of Sonic Spinball in particular.

Yes, two more boards were included as part of Full Tilt Pinball.  But the version of Space Cadet in Full Tilt Pinball is practically identical to the Windows version, except that it also includes multiball.  (The Windows version awards "Replays" when a ball would otherwise be locked, thus making it somewhat easier.)

Played a fair few over the years, console, PC, handheld and otherwise.

As above the difference between between real life and virtual is too great, virtual doing less than real for me. Real also never particularly enthralled me, might be too young really as it was all over here probably by the late 70s -- saw a few in pubs and arcades over the years to come (and these things often still had Asteroids and Moon Lander style 80s arcade games in the late 90s and early 2000s) but they were rather rare even then. I can respect the repair and build scene as some of the stuff I have seen come out of there is top notch work I would not expect to see in many other repair fields, and their history with gambling in the US is fascinating, but as soon as that is done I am out of interest -- same thing I have with cars really.
Back on virtual then I never found an equivalent to something like the Skate games, gun based games or driving games where there is still something to sink my teeth into even if they bear little resemblance to the real deal (minor exception for hunting games -- those I just can't fathom the appeal of even if I am known to run around the woods on occasion in pursuit of meaty things to nibble).

One thing I do like though is when the virtual boards can do all manner of fun things like radically retooling the board, bonus levels, impossibilities and other things that at best would be hideously impractical to do on the real deal. From a programming perspective some of the devs also pull off some pretty impressive graphics and physics simulations.

Openbor and Mugen have nothing to do with pinball, so I'm not sure why you're mentioning them here..?  Is this a mistranslation?

I haven't even heard of Future Pinball before.

I mean he's the OP, I'm sure he can talk about whatever he wants on his thread. Maybe he just wanted a conversation starter to geek out about his interests.

When I used Windows I liked Visual Pinball a fair bit, was a good way to emulate Baby Pac Man especially. Not many good options for it's ilk on Linux and haven't had the best luck running these in WINE unfortunately.

It didn't occur to me that there might be emulation of Baby Pac-Man in its entirety.

I found this video, but it doesn't look like it works very well at all.  Was your experience better?

It's been awhile but it's a more recent version than the video but I recall it being a good deal better, setting it up wasn't the easiest and I recall some parts giving me trouble, I'm thinking controls and the pinmame display, when they eventually got settled it was pretty awesome though.

In related news, I saw a video of Demon's Tilt recently and I am rather intrigued – but it's pretty darn expensive for a single table at the moment.
