It's been a while, but I'm quite sure it teleports between different warp rooms and not between castles. It's a bit unintuitive because there's barely any animation to indicate that something has happened.

actually it's press UP to change castles, press DOWN (kneel) to warp to a different warp point.

Classic CV = Rondo of Blood, although I also love Adventure ReBirth.

Metroidvania = Symphony of the Night with Portrait of Ruin being a close second.

I guess I know what I'll be doing soon now :D. Better hit the last half of the game hard.

Favorite Pre-SOTN game - Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse
The challenge and replayability with the different routes and characters always leaves me coming back for more.

Favorite Post-SOTN game - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Great blend of the old and new styles.

*Wheezing laughter*
Vampire Killer on the MSX? Oof.
A hack of CV1 that recreated its level design would be interesting tho. Kinda like that hack of SMB1 that recreated SMB Special on the NES, color palette and everything.

Someone was actually making a hack of 8Eyes that converted the entire game into Vampire Killer with the graphics mostly intact and fairly close palettes and a metric ass-tonne of ASM work to completely change the level mapping code and recreate every item and weapon and then some.
Haven't seen any updates on it in years so I can only assume it's either abandoned or is just being worked on quietly.

Sadness, that actually sounds pretty cool.

A reasonable ranking. Gotta say I enjoy the Curse of the Moon games more than Ritual of the Night, and I would say most everybody did because the first game spawned a sequel while RotN did not.......

But it's still a cool game.

Castlevania Bloodlines, full stop.  Super Castlevania IV is probably my second favorite though.  Konami really put it out there when they made Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps though.
