Need help with English speech by a Japanese voice actor
« on: July 04, 2020, 05:31:29 pm »
I have a voice clip from a Japanese game with a Japanese voice actor says something in English.
If anyone can help me figure out what the *** part in the sentence below is, I'll really appreciate it.

Here's the voice clip (mp3): https://drive.google.com/file/d/12Lqs2IB8JQtswZQZ4J6FZue8j0bt_jBy/view?usp=sharing

Here's what I figured out so far:
"I promise. I won't *** you. I'll take your hands forever."

The character in the game says this in Japanese first and then in English. The Japanese text is this:
俺が君と繋いだこの手を、
永遠に離さないと誓う。

So I assume the *** should be something that means I won't leave you, but I can't figure out the word he is saying in English. (The game didn't provide English text for that part, only the Japanese text.)

Thank you. :)

My best guess is "come between" (intended in the sense of "break up").

I'm quite used to listening to English in a huge variety of dialects and accents (including Japanese).

I'm pretty sure (if not 99% positive) the dialogue says: "I promise... I won't come between you. I'll take your hands forever."

It doesn't make a lot of sense, so that 1% is me giving the translator the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I've seen a lot of cases where the so-called "translation" just needs to resemble English to be considered good enough, precisely because it'll have subtitles underneath (i.e. "Engrish").

I'm English and am used to quite a variety of regional dialects. I'm pretty sure the line is I won't come between you as well.
A log of some kind.

Thank you for all your replies. I also heard "come between" but thought it didn't make sense.

I'll decide later if I want to keep the original sentence or change it and add a remark in the translator's notes.

Thank you again. :)

I am most fluent in Japanese, check out my channel here on YouTube! :D

"I, bound by our hands, vow for an eternity to never release them."
The meaning basically indicates whoever said this, vows that for an eternity, the character will never release the bond between them, hands is a metaphorical statement meaning they are intertwined together.

jjjewel, I'd listened in normal speed, and in Sound Forge, decreased the speed.

For me it sounds... "I won't come beating you"

Does it makes any sense now?

@MiYaku, thanks for your opinion. My question was about the English part, though.

@peixemacaco, thanks. I agreed with the previous replies that it was "I won't come between you", considering the given Japanese text. It's probably as others said, that it was bad translation from Japanese to English.
