Panzer Dragoon Saga looks like it didn't suck
« on: July 31, 2020, 05:27:09 pm »
https://www.theringer.com/2018/1/29/16940902/1998-video-games-panzer-dragoon-saga-missing-masterpiece

Read this the other day. I've been curious about this game for a long time, but between the rarity of the Western Discs and Saturn Emulation being what it is, it's almost impossible to play through it, without seeking out a physical copy of it in English (which, I don't know who has the money for but it isn't me).

But from everything I am reading, this feels like it was Final Fantasy X before Final Fantasy X was Final Fantasy X.

I wonder, what would it take to make this game playable today? Got a lot of programming heads around here. Does anyone have any idea what the Black Speech of Mordor inside the Saturn is up to here?

Saturn emulation has been pretty good for a while now and this game runs fine in the good ones from what I remember, though I didn't play that far yet.

I used to enjoy playing panzer on my old tablet, but at some point they updated yabuse and it's no longer compatible with my tablet.  :banghead: Dammit!!! Wish I had the means to buy an old saturn, I loved that black box

pretty good

Wanted to emphasize this without putting too fine a point on it

This might actually be putting too fine a point on it, but Yabause stands for

So, this is why I said "Saturn emulation being what it is."

The new Panzer Dragoon remakes were rebuilt from scratch, weren't they? You'd think this game could get a similar treatment with the way people are still talking about it after all these years.

For you maybe, it has served me well overall.

Played through PDS for my first time nearly a decade ago using SSF on a dual core laptop. Didn't notice any emulation glitches or anything.

If you have a underpowered system then consider using SSF. I would recommend trying Yaba Sanshiro first since it supports rendering at higher resolutions.

mednafen features the most accurate, glitch-free Saturn emulation. just use a frontend like mednaffe or medgui.

I played through PDS on YabaSanshiro (yabause fork) earlier this year.

I guess maybe it's come forward recently (Saturn emulation that is), but you can forgive me for being skeptical about it, I would hope. It's been a trash fire for a long time and everyone had been complaining about it, so far as I knew.

that's true, Saturn was notoriously hard to emulate for years. but it's all good now.

nowadays, the emulation wiki is a good resource to go for staying mostly up-to-date with the progress in the emulation department.

I've actually got iso's for the Panzer Dragoon stuff sitting on a USB drive somewhere around here, it's ready to go with Pseudo Saturn but I just can't seem to get around to it, it's kinda the same relationship I have with Alien Soldier, both being really cool games forever relegated to an infinitely growing backlog. :(
