Updated Captain Tsubasa Translation Question
« on: June 23, 2020, 05:07:27 pm »
EDIT: Please ignore this post and look at the bottom of the thread. Thanks!

Hi all. ifightdragons and I are working on a re-writing of the Captain Tsubasa 2 script, and are having difficulty translating what this phrase is. For context, it's a line spoken by someone about another person who ran off in the middle of telling a story. Here's the full line, in context.

"A  %u300C  %u3044%u3051%u306D%u3001%u3057%u3081%u304D%u308A%u306B  %u304A%u304F%u308C%u308B%u305C
%u3058%u3083%u3042  %u307E%u305F%u306A!
B  %u300C  %u30A2%u30C3  %u306B%u3052%u305F!
C  %u300C  %u30C1%u30A7%u30C3  %u3082%u3063%u305F%u3044%u3076%u308A%u3084%u304C%u3063%u3066%u3002

Any assistance would be a big help. Thanks!

I think it's this verb.

https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/%E3%82%82%E3%81%A3%E3%81%9F%E3%81%84%E3%81%B6%E3%82%8B

Basically this comes across like "Tch, unsociable jerk.", or "Tch, Mr. high-and-mighty."

I translated the full line from your first post to English, here's what it says:

A: Okay, I'll give it to you. See you again!
B: Ah! Thank you!
C: After a long time.

Come again? I already knew what was being said, I just needed clarification on the third line. Here's the rough translation I was working with:

A: I must go, the deadline is soon, see ya!
B: Ah, he's running away!
C: Cheh, always giving himself airs.

Here's my take, Japanese is my second language.

"Let's go, huh, before it's too late, well, see ya."
"Ah, it escaped!"
"Damn, trying to be all important."

The last line is ambiguous, it seems the line is meant to indicate someone is being showy or putting in too much effort to look cool or something.

Ok, the context is three reporters (きしゃA, B, and C) coming together to talk about the upcoming semifinals for the World Cup Youth, or U-20 in official terms. Reporters B and C are asking questions back and forth, while A comments on them. A then reveals a big secret that would tip the balance in a particular team's favor and hints at another one (それに  もうひとつ  •  •  •) before suddenly declaring he has a deadline and running off, leading to the lines by B and C.

Thank you for the context. もったいぶる here disapproves of A's hiding the information to make it more intriguing than it really is. (As a native speaker of Japanese, I don't really know the English phrase for it... "make a big deal out of it"? "leave someone hanging"?)

Huh. That gives me something to think about, Momochi. Thanks very much. I'd maybe use "puff himself up", or "he's full of it".

I've got another situation that has me stumped. These are all spoken lines from a single person in one scene, meant for comedy. Thanks!

Ahh! The referee above has the nerve to sleep!
Heeey! Wake uuup! [is あ a typo?]
No good...
Oh well.
Until you start the game, maybe I'll sleep too.
So goodniiight.
(snores) (peaceful breathes)
(snore) (peaceful breath) [is ら a typo?]

Funny lines!

Once again you come to the rescue - thanks, Momochi.

Unfortunately, the one who dumped the text couldn't read Japanese and used a program which "read" the image and posted what it thought the characters were. It's mostly correct, but there are some errors.

Can you also translate this text? It's for the last match of the game. Thanks!

Now the game is finally at its climax, we are getting unable to take our eyes off.
The ending is near, Charlie will root for [you?] in his heart.
How was it? I say something nice for a change, huh!
What! I don't?
Sheesh!!
Anyway, towards the victory--
Kick off!!
Go for it, Japan!

There's one more thing (maybe) that we're having issues with - this concerns discussion of a particular team's strategy, and specifically, how their goalkeeper acts. Here's the text in full, for context.

ブラジルがたサッカーのチームで
ゴールまえのヘディングには  かなり
いりょくがある。  また  GKも
なかなか  くせものらしい。

The area we need clarification on is the second sentence: from my research, it seems to be referring to an irregular or unpleasant habit, but I'm stuck as to the actual meaning being conveyed.

また  GKも
なかなか  くせものらしい。

Thanks!
