You really underestimate what a huge barrier these 5 minutes actually are. You might lose a lot of possible fans and feedback because people really hate wasting time on unnecessary stuff.

However, that you don't want to check various sites is perfectly reasonable. But the thing is, if someone actually spent a few hours playing your hack and they really like it, then these 5 minutes are indeed absolutely nothing. As then they are invested enough to absolutely not care anymore.

It's not even the time required, Discord is just another Google/Facebook 2.0, their free, because they like to collect and sell user data (surprise, surprise), create shadow profiles on everyone, record things like your IP's, locations, etc.

Not everyone want to hop onto the latest "Facebook" just to try out a ROM hack that may or may not be good.

this is not a user-friendly approach at all, just upload the patch file on like dropbox or google drive and link it in the OP. more exposure, people won't be frustrated with your insistence they join your discord, everyone wins.

of course, if you're distributing a prepatched binary on your discord then you're doing this even more incorrectly as per site etiquitte/legality

The copy you found is not being distributed by me, so it's not my concern. The barrier is intended primarily for me, although yes, it is mildly unfortunate that you have the Discord barrier. However, most gamers I know have Discord nowadays, so it's not like I'm asking to join a Patreon or some unknown jank barrier.

I just posted on here figuring most people here already use Discord or wouldn't mind setting up an account on the biggest social platform for gaming. Anyway, I'll update the post to say that you can find the ROM using Google so that people who don't want to use Discord will be indirectly pointed to a download link, although I am not responsible or advocating for its distribution via such links.

The discord requirement should be optional, not mandatory.

I actually tried uploading the ROM to this site a couple times, but they make it such a hassle that I just gave up. If someone else wants to upload it, by all means, go ahead. Alternatively, you can find an older version of the ROM pretty easily via Google.

Also, I just uploaded v.1.0.2 on Discord, which adds level caps.

Ok so it was a bit of a hassle, but I finally got this hack accepted on the site. Here is the link to the page: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/7096/

You can get the 1.0.5 (current) patch there along with a .txt of the documentation, which has other links including to my discord, where you can get the files in different formats and chat with the community. Enjoy!

I found the queue submission quite funny not gonna lie, I don't remember the exact wording but it went something along the lines of;

"I do not understand why this was denied? The reason stated was that there was no file included... but there was a file included... a text file with a link that points people to my discord..."

I'm just glad RHDN has a stance on that sort of thing.

Lol not sure how people can take personal offence from someone not offering a hack in the way they see fit. Oh well, your loss.

And that had nothing to do with why the hack was denied. It was because of all their technical requirements for screenshots and such.

That had everything to do with it, you had wrote a giant wall of text and from it you appeared to be confused as to why mods were denying the hack, their reasoning was that was was no "patch" files included in the zip, you stated there was a file that pointed people to your discord where people can get the patch...

I also don't take personal offense from any of this, if there a ridiculous hoops to jump through, I'm just not going to bother, simple.

You can do what you please with your hack, but if your using RHDN as a store page for advertisement then you should offer a patch file here.

The personal offence thing was in response to Kiryu.

And fair enough, that's why I put the patch up (would've been done sooner if it was a simpler process). Ah, you're referring to my original attempt at getting the patch up. Last week I attempted to put it up again and ran into multiple technical hurdles, which is what I was just recently referring to. There were no such issues that you mentioned this time around; in fact, the .txt up on this site still contains a link to my Discord.

No worries, good luck on your hack, and now maybe, hopefully, by putting it up here (RHDN) you'll gain some new loyal fans who'll enjoy your work.

Don't know about you but if I put 10, 50, 100+ hours into a ROM hack, I'd want as many people playing it as possible, I'd keep the barrier of entry (Discord), as low a possible.

Thanks, I know that the patch has already been downloaded quite a few times on here already so that's cool. I just don't want to personally host it too openly/directly, so I've gotta be careful with that. And try 1000+ hours

I've just released v.1.0.7, although it's only on Discord right now. I might get around to uploading it to the romhacking entry at some point, but for now I just added the 1.0.7 trailer, which links to my server. If someone wants to upload the ROM or a patch somewhere else, by all means.
