Where to start?...

Hey guys and sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section.


I was messing with some PSOne roms using Hex and psx-mode2 to import the file, so far, text-wise it works. But i wanted to know more...

My question is: where to start digging into these game files? can't wait for people to make tools for me, I wanna make them myself :p

I have a basic understanding or programming, that's all. but I keep hearing a lot of stuff (header, tables, routines, reverse engineering...etc) and I have no idea where to start...

What do you guys suggest?

it really depends on what you actually want to do.
Here you can find a guide that can explain various things about romhacking:

I don't have much experience with the PS1, but a few months ago i used

https://github.com/m35/jpsxdec

to dump the contents of a games .BIN, might be useful for you.

As far as i can tell there are tons of programs out in the wild that can do exacly what you want to do.
Most of the you don't have to program something on your own.
