Neat! Luigi should be thin and Mario is always a chubby.

I know the project is on hold, but I think a possible name for the full hack was mentioned in the thread

my proposal is = Super Mario Re-drawn Collection

based on the original Super Famicom title

extra article about the project in nintendoenthusiast.com ( did they know him? )

@pocket - A question about the poll - Do you think you're gonna be loyal to the current results of it and make the overworld background colors of the All-Stars version of SMB darker? Or are you gonna leave things be the way they are now? While I know the project is on hiatus, I'm just curious to hear what you think. :)

Razieldemon

Hey @pocket we don't usually leave messages on here like this but I hope you are okay. I know you were having some challenges and I sincerely wish they are becoming easier for you soon.

bucko

I hope this hack gets popular with all the effort going into it! ;)

Hey Pocket! And everyone who's helping him with the project, I literally made an account just to be able to talk about this and say how much this is one of the coolest project i've ever seen and didn't know I needed!

What makes this hack standing so much on the spotlight to me is that it's something nobody have ever thought about, people always tried making the games looking "better" or "modern" and made non necessary edits making them ugly to my standards.

THIS though, is making the games SHINE! It makes them to perfect state, to a state that is superior to Nintendo's official product! Going for BOOK ARTWORKS to design the whole games and your attempt to put the backgrounds fitting with all of this is pure beauty and it has amazed me very deeply to play the entire demo you posted even if it's not the final product.

SMAS, Zeldas on NES and Sonic 2 have been the VERY first games I have seen and touched, SMAS is very important to me and even if I love the game I always felt that something was wrong related to the sprites and all and recently I discover you and all of this and watch the images in the whole thread and am like *falls of the chair of wowing* literally!

I am so so excited to get my hands on the final product, I know many people would say that it's nothing to be excited about because it's the same game, but the energy and atmosphere your work adds to those games makes a HUGE difference on the quality and emotions felt during gameplay and not so many players understand what this is about and would think what I say is strange and crazy.

Anyway, I support you and your helpers, you all are doing an outstanding job on this! And it's been a while since I have been excited for something on hacking and know that you're making a happy person. 8)

QuoteThose work surprisingly well but there is something off about them I just can't put my finger on, but I don't really know where those would fit in anyway.  We've already got sprites for SMB2,3, and Lost Levels, we're really just waiting for the SMB1 sprites from Metal Wario 64.

Well, if you could figure out how to make that work, let me know. I'm just thinking it would be nice to used the Hotel Mario head for reference, since the sprite from said CD-i game was based on the design from the 80s, including Menko cards by Amada:

I mean the whole thread's been dead because the project is kind of halted. This hack is my responsibility so there there's no need for anyone but myself to apologize for a lack of activity at all. But if you really want something to do, maybe take a stab at any of these, as I feel very unsatisfied with them.

SMB1 Hammer Bro
SMB1 Bushes
SMB1 Bowser
SMB3 Priranha Plants
SMB3 Fire Plants
SMB3 Hammer/Boomerang/Fire Bro
SMB3 Power-Ups  ( these are honestly a suprisingly large headache for me, partly because of inconsistencies in the art, the sprites, and larger sprites in-game like the mushroom house slot matching game, but also because there's like a million variations on the power-up and I can't tell which is which, SMB3's sprites are arranged in such a messy way that they're the most tedious to work with )

I haven't thought about that at all, I didn't think there would be a need for box art if it's just a romhack, but then again I guess some people like to add romhacks to SNES classic, retropie, or launchbox, so maybe it's worth thinking about, but that's more of a "last steps" thing to worry about...  honestly, since the main focus was being true to the original art, I think it should either use existing art from the classic games, or somebody who is an expert at re-creating that look can make some box art if they feel.  I can draw alright but I am very amaturish.  The only thing I can say for sure is that it would make me really upset if somebody just slapped modern Mario renders on the cover and called it a day, it's honestly a pet peeve of mine how often modern renders get used in things for classic games like romhack box art, overlays, or frontend themes. Feels a bit like putting Ben Affleck and Jared Leto on the cover of a Batman '89 DVD. Know what I mean?

Anyway, seems there's not a lot of interest for a non-redrawn version of the split SMB1/TLL graphics hack, eh?
Your project is amazing. Then I'll see if I can repaint something for Mario 3...Are you intending to tinker with Mario 4 too?

What are you talking about? There is no "Mario 4" that I'm aware of. And IMO, Super Mario World doesn't count, otherwise Yoshi's Island should be called "Mario 5".

P.S.: I know that the Japanese box art for Super Mario World includes the title "Super Mario Bros. 4", but no other releases refer to SMW as SMB4. Hell, if I remember correctly, the Japanese title screen doesn't contain SMB4 either! Nintendo must have abandoned the SMB4 moniker for Super Mario World.

Pocket can you add the new stuff they added the the super Mario advance and super Mario advance 4 to the super Mario all star redrawn minus the Mario voice clips.

Razieldemon

Just reminding you again pocket how bloody awesome this project is. Whether you have it release in 2022 or 2025 I will always be excited for something fresh coming from you. Hope things are on the up for you buddy!

This is super cool! I think it'd be great if you could open up a Discord server for this project. It would be a lot easier to reach you and see the newest updates when they're finished, along with community submissions/suggestions for sprite adjustments. It's also much easier to navigate than on these forums. I'd really love to join if you decide to make a server!  :)

That, I can agree on.

@pocket I don't know if you got someone to do the sprites you listed in your last post, but I think I've gotten something good for the bushes.

(Also, I couldn't figure out what to use to add an image so I just used my SMWCentral account lol)

That's a nice looking bush. Very fluffy. I don't know if anybody found away to add the award winning smile to the poison mushroom so I'll try throwing my hand at the idea.

Edit: CHEESE! *Snap*

It's amazing how much of an improvement the sprites are versus the original ones.

I hope you are able to eventually complete this wonderful project
