I just tried the demo on bsnes 115 and the graphics are messed up. Still, it was great seeing all the new sprites in the game and can't wait til it's finished.

Which rom did you patch it to?
If you patch it to plain Super Mario All-Stars, the graphics get messed up, since i'm using Yoshifanatic's hack to produce stand alone games.  You need to patch it to Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World. I specifically patched it to Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (U) [!]

The original All Stars

My apologies. I only read up to the link and got excited and didn't read the rest of your post. Ha, ha.

I did patch it to Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, but the graphics were messed up for me, too (though not to the same extent).

I don't know what to say other than to make sure it's specifically the  Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (U) [!] version of SMAS+W.  That's the one that works for me.

I just applied it to the All Stars + World rom and the graphics are still messed up. I'm using lunar ips to patch the file, and the rom is unheadered.

My rom is Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (USA).sfc

Edit: I tried it on snes9x v1.60 too and it's doing the same thing.

Ok, I put a new patch in the folder. https://mega.nz/folder/6CRU3ADY#xV3kUhMufDyreEL_OfErDA

I tried the same version of the rom you have ( the one with (USA) at the end ) and it should work. The new patch is SMB2 USA, apply it to Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World (USA).sfc

I believe that one actually is headered though.

I applied the new patch to the unheadered rom and it's all good so far. I'll let you know if anything pops up.

Alex O.

The new patch works just fine; thanks!
I used an unheadered ROM.

The graphics are so cool! they really look like in the manual, I'm enjoying this so much! keep up the good work! :woot!:

I wasn't expecting any issues since it's just a graphical hack.. well.. excluding the stand alone patch, but I hope you enjoyed the demo.

I'm currently in the process of using Yoshifanatic's disassembly to better organize my project since it actually includes folders containing all the games graphics.  I've kinda been brute forcing it up until now by just editing the rom itself but that was extremely disorganized.  Only the lost levels custom graphics had any organization until recently thanks to DarkSamus's custom lost levels graphic hack.

This will hopefully let me keep better track of what's left to do but I'll still have to insert everything manually since Yoshifanatic's disassembly can only assemble SMAS+SMW, and i'm currently not planning to make a SMW version of this hack.

Hopefully this puts the finish line just a little closer.  Once the remaining sprites are finished, the main obstacle will be all the items in the list near the bottom of the first post in this thread. I know Stratoform made some of it possible recently but I've no idea how to actually impliment any of it.

Also I think I might want to re-open the poll about what this hacks name should be. I originaly pitched 35th anniversary edition but everyone voted for redrawn.  I feel like now that Nintendo is actually celebrating Mario's 35th people might be more receptive to that name?  I don't like to go back on poll results though, so i'm not too sure.

I honestly would prefer no name change at all, but if name has to be chosen, I would vote for the 35th Anniversary Edition too. It just sounds more official.

Remember, as Nick Meyer said (Star Trek Movie Memories, p.167):

Quote[...]My theory of film is that nobody cares what the name of the movie is, nobody cares what the movie's about, and nobody cares who's in the movie, they only care about one thing. "Is the movie good?"

True, but Super Mario asdfghjkl doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

True, but Super Mario asdfghjkl doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

I don't think either of the proposed names suit it, tbh.

35th Anniversary is something that's Nintendo's responsibility to put on the label of a thing. This is unsanctioned.

"Redrawn" seems too slight.

If I were gonna name it, it'd be "Super Mario All-Stars: Mario Painted."

If i'm being fair here, it's just the name of the hack since I think adding a decent looking subtitle to the title screen is above my skill level. The actual title of the game wouldn't change. The most I was thinking of doing is changing the coin with Mario's face on it at the game's start up to denote it's Mario's 35th anniversary, and even that I think  might be too tough for me to tackle unless I remove the "shine" animation. I guess asking about the name of the hack is the least important thing to be thinking of right now.

I think we can chew on the name a little more when the project is closer to completion.  I'll re open a poll about the name at a later date. But for now I want to focus on more important things that could move the project forward.

Ar8temis008 actually sent me a patch for stand alone SMB1 brick fix from Yoshifanatic himself, so I believe I can send out a Super Mario Bros. 1 demo next.  The only thing needed for SMB1 to be "mostly complete" are the Mario and Luigi sprites that MetalWario is working on. I could just use my Lost Levels Mario sprites as a placeholder but even those are unfinished ( mostly just a few Small Mario sprites. And most of Small Luigi )

A lost levels demo shouldn't be too far off after that. Most of the LL sprites are just barely different from the ones I'm using for SMB1, although the final game will likely be pretty different from the demo depending on what I can do with Stratoform's work.

SMB3 on the other hand would be quite far away. There's a lot more work to do there. And when it's done I might as well not bother with a stand alone release since all the games should be done at that point.

EDIT: I've updated the OP to give a better idea of what's left to do. There are some items that are reliant on the help of others, but I may just leave those ideas out the hack if they're not possible.

In regards to Lost Levels World 9, will you restore the original joke of the FDS version? Basically, changing the underwater background to the overworld variant, and maybe removing the water surface to make it cover the whole screen.
