ROM Hacks: Final Fantasy IV - Ultima (VERSION 6.0)
« on: December 24, 2019, 04:46:46 pm »

Update By: 8.bit.fan

Final Fantasy IV - Ultima version 6.0 is out!!

This is a huge update with many new additions such as new enemies, new bosses, new items and gears, new map locations, new scenarios and events, and much much more. But the biggest of the update is the newly implemented Custom Enemy Graphics! This was something that was always intended to be added to the hack since the beginning but was never able to be done until recently, with the help of the amazing hacker chillyfeez! It was a tireless work for the past couple of months creating, coding and implementing these new custom enemy graphics, and this news article is to showcase the results to everyone! :) Huge, huge thanks to chillyfeez for the help in this because this would not have been possible without his help! Much appreciation and credit to chillyfeez!! :)

Hope you'll all check it out and enjoy this hack immensely!

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or comments! Cheers!! :)

o_O what's a "caller"? seems rather bizarre to change the summoner class to caller when that's literally what rydia is...a summoner.

A Caller is what a Summoner is called the US version of FF2 SNES.
Hope you'll enjoy the hack!

I love that you kept it "caller", I've never really liked "summoner".

Unfortunately, I've encountered a game breaking bug. In the underground waterway, upon entering the room that's 2 past the save point (with the potion and feathered cap) it drops you off inside a wall, you can't move anywhere.

Hi there!
Quite a few people have asked me about this so I know exactly what's going on ... :)
The problem you are experiencing is due to using the wrong patcher to the wrong version of the rom(ie. headered to non-header).

If you'd like, I can PM you on how to patch it correctly step by step.

Hope you'll get to continue playing soon and enjoy the rest of the hack! :)

Cheers!!

Awesome, I got it fixed, thanks so much! Btw, I made a video covering this hack (though it was a previous version) and 2 other complete hacks, I'll share it here because I think you might enjoy it. I'm also considering doing an LP of this hack pretty soon too. Thanks so much!

Oh god, discord. LOL, I never know how to use this website. It always says that I have an unclaimed account, then when I try to claim it, it says my email is already registered. Then I don't really know what to do, and it doesn't let me post anything. Also, the help section is completely useless. So I just never use the site.

Nice hack so far, been a while since I played FF4 so it's a good way to do it again. However the Blood Sword makes things a little too easy on an already easy game, is there a patch available that increases difficulty for this hack? I hope added end-game content is more difficult than last dungeon.

Hi Warrax! :)
Thanks for the kind words and hope you are enjoying the hack!! :)
Yes, the beginning is pretty easy and in fact it might be even easier than vanilla ... however, it's going to get hard and the difficulty will ramp up significantly at endgame so no need to worry! :) In fact, many casual players have told me that the last 1/3 of the game is too hard and many have actually requested for an 'easy patch' for this hack!

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions! :)

Cheers!!

Hello, I encountered an easily avoidable, but game breaking bug - if you use the magic map item it freezes the game.

Hello again, I don't know if you'll see this, but I thought I would ask. I just beat the Giant of Babil, and was wondering when exactly I would be able to fight the shiny spots in the new grotto dungeons scattered around the upper and lower worlds. Also, If you have any boss strategies that you would like to share with me, I would greatly appreciate it, I'm currently level 55 and getting slaughtered by the crystals and Dark Dragons on the moon. Thanks again for your great hack!

Hi davidvinc! :)
How's it going? Hope you are doing well!
First of all, thanks for doing a playthrough of this hack! I've been following your video uploads and always give it a thumbsup! :) Very glad you are enjoying this hack and thanks so much again for the kind words!! :)

To answer your question, the 'shiny spots' should open up after certain secret event in the Lunar Core, you won't miss it as the game will tell you. However, I have v7.0 ready and should be released in the next couple of days ... one of the new features is that some of the 'shiny spots' will be opened up sooner so players can challenge them at a lower level if they wish! :)

Btw, which 'Dark Dragons' are you referring to? As for the Crystals, they have several different phases ... watch carefully and counter each one of them accordingly and then the fight shouldn't be too bad ... good luck!! :D :) ...and feel free to reach out again if you need any other questions! Our discord community is very active and there are lots of strategies on their already for various things for this hack: https://discord.gg/4MqjwJt

Hope this helps and cheers!!

Thank you for the response. I just want to make sure that I don't miss anything and that I show the best strategies for each boss. I would use discord if I knew how to, and I've gone in there and read what other people post, but it won't let me post anything. Apparently I have an "unclaimed account" and when it try to claim it, it says my email address is already on file. The website just doesn't like me, and I'm through fooling with it. If I have any more questions I'll be sure to ask you here, thanks!
